SCOOP: Marvel Planning A GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Animated Series

We'll see James Gunn's live action take on the cosmic superteam in theaters later in the year, but it's been revealed to us that Marvel also have plans for an animated outing for Star Lord, Gamora, Drax and co. Details are sparse, but read on for what we do know.

Senior editor Stephen Wacker hinted at the possibility in an interview last year, but a well placed source has confirmed to us that Marvel do indeed have plans for a new animated series focusing on the Guardians Of The Galaxy. Word is that Marvel were undecided on whether to go with GOTG or yet another Spider-Man cartoon, and although the latter may also happen, it seems they've settled on the Guardians for now. We don't have any info on when we can expect to see it etc, but it's a safe bet that like the other current Marvel animated shows, it will air on Disney XD. You can see the likes of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista bring the team to live-action life when Guardians Of The Galaxy hits theaters August 1, 2014.

Thank god they went with a GOTG show
Marvel needs to quick milking the Spider-Man cow and turn to the other cattle
Same with DC, there are other heroes to make a show about other than Bats and Supes
The universes of both franchises have too many characters for them to just stick to a select few of characters

I don't expect too much from Marvel when it comes to animated series, but it would be interesting to see something else besides Spidey. Also, I liked when Guardians appeared in A:EMH, that was a great episode.

could be good if its not like ultimate spider-man,agents of smash & avengers assemble.

Probably will be more similar to Avengers Assemble than EMH. If that's so I won't bother.

@OldGreg With characters like Groot, Drax and Rocket Rackoon it's guaranteed to not be much less goofier than those two shows. They don't care about their personalities in the comics only about what they look like. If Marvel wanted to make a kids show about a team with a family dynamic than they should a Fantastic Four show focussing on Franklin Richards. They could have just as differen t stories as they have in those but at least it would be slightly faithfull to the comics.

Good news but don't make it kiddy friendly. And just cancel Ultimate Spider-Man.

Hard to get excited about this since they havn't made anything good since EMH. But who knows, it might be a turning point.

Guaranteed goofy tone. Marvel sold out to Disnyness. EVERYTHING they make will have the stench of 12-year-old antics. Forget about the Punisher or any other deadly serious heroes.

Just bring back the Spectacular Spider-Man already. That was this century's Batman: TAS, it deserves to be brought back.

Marvel has really no faith in these characters as they're depicted in the comics. The designs are kid friendly enough, and this will be exploited for maximum comedy for kids. That's it.

A lot of people don't recognize this, but Marvel has implemented this exact policy for the MCU. Avengers, Thor 2, and even Iron Man 3 are primarily comedies as that will be rake in the most cash from all audiences. They have the comic audience already in from the simple notion of the "shared universe" and disguise the amount of comic inaccuracy with humor.

Meanwhile, Fox and Sony get a shit ton of criticism for not being so clever as Marvel with their disrespect for comic accuracy.

So because Marvel know the best way to exploit the market and earn money, that's a bad thing?

Wow... do people seriously not realize that children are the primary audience for cartoon shows, and that there is always going to be a very slight chance adults will like the shows.

If you look at USM and Avengers Assemble from a kid's perspective, they are honestly not bad for what they are..
A kids show.

You're all a bunch of adults (probably) moaning about the quality of a show made for kids.

This is bound to happen, I hope they make a solid show. Though if this ends up on the Disney Channel which it will, well you know how those turn out!

Called this! I'm excited that they have an animated universe. Ultimate Spider-Man is a CT u ally a great show in my opinion, it doesn't deserve the hate, and that's the Spider-Man we'd get in the MCU to some extent.

"Word is that Marvel were undecided on whether to go with GOTG or yet another Spider-Man cartoon, and although the latter may also happen, it seems they've settled on the Guardians for now."

It's bullshit. Marvel stated the show is going a long time. A lot longer than 65 episodes.

Is strugler giving you fake info Mark Cassidy?

Well, if they make it like EMH then consider me interested. If they make it like Ultimate Stupid-Boy, then count me out.

Here's the thing Wolverine and the X Men need to make an appearance other than just Ultimate Spidey.I like the Ultimate Spider man but to many appearances depend on this show, expand it more with the other shows. GOTG would make a awesome show again with the The Avengers! I Love the shows just not the Hulk one seems a little uninteresting but they're onto something..

Hopefully Next season will be better for all three shows
Zeponi
Zeponi - 1/3/2014, 8:41 AM
@Nomis

Yes, these shows found the perfect balance, and are all equally awesome, but my point is that these did that by sheer chance! There was no guarantee that EMH was gonna be well received by fans, and the same for Batman TAS, this is most likely to have happened by chance. You can even argue that they intended USM to have this approach, but they tried to replicate something that didn't happen on purpose, and it ended up disappointing the other half of the viewers (the fans).

I like Ultimate Spider-Man because it's just fun, doesn't take itself seriously.
