The Nova Corps Joining GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY?

Not too surprising, but it seems the intergalactic military/police force of planet Xandar, better known as The Nova Corps, will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe per Guardians of the Galaxy. Check it out!

Long before Joss Whedon assembled The Avengers on the big-screen, there was much talk about Marvel Studios having plans to explore the cosmic side of its expanding universe, furthermore. Now with the Guardians of the Galaxy film taking place 95% in space, we should expect the James Gunn-directed space epic to feature numerous other cosmic beings. That being said, Ain’t It Cool News’ Harry Knowles recently reported that, “I was contacted by a source..., telling me that after they had a dinner with a friend that is a confirmed part of [Guardians of the Galaxy]’s production team, that the friend let it slip over the meal that NOVA CORPS were definitely a part of the movie.” The inclusion of the intergalactic military/police force known as The Nova Corps implies that the first character known as Nova, Richard Rider, will also appear, making his cinematic debut.

Although it’s too early to be sure, there have been recent indications that suggest the Nova Corps, or space cops, would have a role in the 2014 Guardians film. When Marvel Studios debuted the first Guardians of the Galaxy concept art at Comic-Con last year, it was speculated that The Nova Corps ships featured in it’s background. Plus, two Marvel NOW! comic book series were recently launched for both Guardians and Nova, despite the latter title involving another character of the same name.

Anyhow, The Nova Corps was originally a space militia and exploration group for the planet Xandar in the comic books. The source of their power was called the Nova Force which is an unlimited energy generated by a living computer called the Xandarian Worldmind. Throughout their paperback ventures, The Nova Corps crossed paths with many cosmic beings such as The Kree, The Skrulls and actually teamed-up with Guardians of the Galaxy. However, they first appeared in a Fantastic Four issue, which could mean that 20th Century Fox actually owns them. What do you think?

Marvel Studios presents “Guardians of the Galaxy”—A big space epic featuring an unlikely cast of Marvel characters, including Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot and Rocket Raccoon, who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. So far starring Chris Pratt and directed by James Gunn from a screenplay by James Gunn, “Guardians of the Galaxy” is based on the Marvel comic book series “Guardians of the Galaxy,” first published in 1969 and revived in 2008. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures will distribute “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014, in 3D. In addition, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; the sequel to “Marvel's The Avengers” on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

Oh yeh, forgot to say, today i myself had dinner with someone from the production on GotG, and they revealed to me, after a bit of prodding, that Rocket Racer, the Big Wheel AND Blade also appear.

I don't get why AICN don't return my emails.

always thought and still do think Nova will appear somewhere somehow with or without his own movie. no idea how its gonna happen but its probably in progress because of all the marketing ive seen on him. marvel is already building on his fan base and im sure they'll throw him in as a supporting character in someones movie if not his own...

This would be awesome if this turns out to be true.

But, anyone notices how what appears to be spaceships in the background of the concept art looks like the shape of the Nova Corps star emblem on the helmet?

oh yes,if this is true this is the best news i've heard in ages.

as for fox owning the rights,i reckon its the same as namor, the inhumans & black panther-marvel have full ownership of those characters i think the same can be said for the nova corps.

Never been a Nova fan, but this does sound pretty freaking awesome! I want H. Jon Benjamin to voice Rocket Raccoon the same way he voices Archer

I think they'll have the full nova corps, with RR being the main guy. In regards to the kree and Skrulls, technically both Fox and Marvel own the rights, its just a matter of who uses them first. However, Kevin Feige has said that Marvel has more leverage to use the Skrulls in case they ever want to adapt secret invasion. And id put my money on us getting our first TTDW full length trailer with IM3, considering its about 6 months before.

There won't be an individual nova corps film for a while cos of green lantern's flop. I think they could feature as a background presence but doubt Rider or any NOVA incarnation will appear in this way.

More importantly where is Captain Marvel's movie? If they do Thanos without him i will feel cheated.

80sFace - 3/6/2013, 4:58 AM
Nova first appeared in his own book in '76, so Marvel would own the rights to him and the Corp.

If this is true, I agree that the Nova Corp would just be in the background. Too many characters if one is central. Just means more toy sales for Marvel...

How many of you who "hate" the new Nova have actually read the comic? I'm going to guess somewhere between zero and negative twenty.

You do realize you can like Rider and still enjoy a new character, right? It's not cheating, because he's in a different area code.

All I want for Christmas is Ryan Reynolds for Nova. Did two Marvel movies, then took a shit on DC, then did a breakout Marvel movie? Following Bryan Singer's career path!

It makes sense that the Nova Corps would appear.

I always imagined the GotG movie to be a bunch of misfits being chased through space, so having the space police be the Nova Corps would be a cool way of doing that.
