Long before Joss Whedon assembled The Avengers on the big-screen, there was much talk about Marvel Studios having plans to explore the cosmic side of its expanding universe, furthermore. Now with the Guardians of the Galaxy film taking place 95% in space, we should expect the James Gunn-directed space epic to feature numerous other cosmic beings. That being said, Ain’t It Cool News’ Harry Knowles recently reported that, “I was contacted by a source..., telling me that after they had a dinner with a friend that is a confirmed part of [Guardians of the Galaxy]’s production team, that the friend let it slip over the meal that NOVA CORPS were definitely a part of the movie.” The inclusion of the intergalactic military/police force known as The Nova Corps implies that the first character known as Nova, Richard Rider, will also appear, making his cinematic debut.
Although it’s too early to be sure, there have been recent indications that suggest the Nova Corps, or space cops, would have a role in the 2014 Guardians film. When Marvel Studios debuted the first Guardians of the Galaxy concept art at Comic-Con last year, it was speculated that The Nova Corps ships featured in it’s background. Plus, two Marvel NOW! comic book series were recently launched for both Guardians and Nova, despite the latter title involving another character of the same name.
Anyhow, The Nova Corps was originally a space militia and exploration group for the planet Xandar in the comic books. The source of their power was called the Nova Force which is an unlimited energy generated by a living computer called the Xandarian Worldmind. Throughout their paperback ventures, The Nova Corps crossed paths with many cosmic beings such as The Kree, The Skrulls and actually teamed-up with Guardians of the Galaxy. However, they first appeared in a Fantastic Four issue, which could mean that 20th Century Fox actually owns them. What do you think?
