GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Star Dave Bautista Reinforces His Criticism About The Firing Of Director James Gunn

In a new tweet, Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista attacks Disney over the circumstances of the firing of director James Gunn, saying that "GOTG without James Gunn just isn’t GOTG".

Ever since Disney announced the firing of Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn over controversial old tweets of his, Dave Bautista has been one of the most vocal celebrities to express his discontent with the decision. Bautista, along with the rest of the main Guardians cast released a joint statement the other week in support of Gunn in which they do not defend his tweets but stand up for the man they got to know while working on his films.

The rest of the Guardians cast have let the joint letter speak for them but Bautista has continued to express his frustration and disappointment. Bautista was asked on Twitter about his potential response should Disney not rehire Gunn, and he responded that he would only do the third Guardians film out of contractual obligation. Check out Bautista's response below:

That surely does sound quite a bit more confrontational than one would expect his employer Disney to wish for, and probably doesn't exactly encourage the directors who might be in the running to replace James Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3.

What do you guys think about Bautista's strong words?

Like I said just delay GotG for a few years and repalce it with Eternals in 2020

@WakandaTech -
GotG 3 was going to cover the fallout of Infinity War, which would likely have to feature Adam Warlock and explain why the Infinity Stones will no longer be a factor.

As such delaying it does not seem possible which is why they had a short time to decide what to do with James Gunn, given it is meant to start filming in early 2019 and Disney need to find a new director.

@WakandaTech - if the actors dont want to do the film without Gunn i can see Marvel just picking a different team, might even be able to include Silver Surfer and Gladiator now with X-Men and FF coming back.

@CaptainAmerica - this is another major concern I have. Because of how Disney handled the firing (i.e. acting very impulsively and not taking their time), there is a huge domino effect that could happen. As @Scarilian noted, GOTG3 was going to cover the fallout of Infinity War and Avengers 4. As well as introduce Adam Warlock. And probably set up the Eternals and the Marvel Cosmic universe. And also feature the original Guardians (with Stallone and crew). If the movie gets delayed or scrapped because of Disney's actions, all of this potential possibly gets thrown away or mishandled.

@WakandaTech - The trouble is that Kevin Feige has said that GOTG Vol.3 is an important movie post Avengers 4 with setting the direction of Phase 4 so I'm guessing that if the movie is delayed then Marvel would have to do some major restructuring in terms of how Phase 4 plays out and I just don't think they'd do that.

I think it’s a matter of time before these guys all start doing this. I doubt it changes anything but if they really want Dis way to know they are serious then this is the only way. I respect the conviction but ultimately I think what likely is that we see Guardians continue with a different roster after Vol. 3 as im sure was already the plan anyway. It’s an easy out for the studio if the cast turns, it keeps the franchise fresh (although I doubt we continue to see solo Guardians movies after 3) and it allows the cast even if they don’t turn to move on. Regardless of if Gunn returns this series is going to look very differently after the end of the trilogy

Dave Bautista is a god damn hero.

This guy is brave, soft-spoken, and kind above all. You know Gunn is a good guy is Bautista is on his side.

Flark every asshat has facilitated this farce.

This is a VERY strong post. And this is exactly the problem that some of us have been worrying about (well, one of the problems) if Disney doesn't course correct- actors and actresses legally bound to work but not having their heart in the role and therefore giving 'emotionless' performances. This is not what you want because it obviously affects the whole movie.

Here's how I see it: these posts are old. They existed long before Disney hired James Gunn, so it's their fault, not his. Even though some were deleted, if a random idiot on the internet could dig them up, I'm sure Disney could've found out about it. I don't think they had any right to fire him, personally.

REGARDLESS of what happened with James Gunn, I would love to see Korg and Miek show up in Guardians 3. Thor would be a great addition as well, though I wouldn't necessarily want him in the entire film as he would take the spotlight away from the Guardians.
