In recent weeks, James Gunn has been spending a lot of time on social media hyping up the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 next month.
He's balancing that with his new gig as DC Studios' co-CEO, a job which sees the filmmaker taking charge of an entire slate of DCU projects (he'll also step behind the camera to direct Superman: Legacy). Believe it or not, there are some who have taken issue with Gunn promoting an MCU project, including a commenter on Instagram.
Responding to a photo of Gunn on the Guardians of the Galaxy threequel's set, this user shared, "The worst business that DC could do was to hire someone who advertises the competition...unbelievable...now can you imagine what their movies are going to be like? I think it's a disaster."
That's a perfectly reasonable reaction to the director promoting his final Marvel Studios movie, right?
Well, Gunn would later replay to that by stating, "The last thing DC would want is someone who would spend the last 12 years of his life creating a series of films, and then turn his back on the last movie he created and poured his heart and souls into, as well as his collaborators and the investors."
"I wasn't hired at DC without everyone on board being very clear and supportive up front and continuously through this process."
As well as promoting Vol. 3, Gunn has continued fielding questions about the DCU and is thought to be hard at work not only on Superman: Legacy, but Creature Commandos and Waller as well.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 arrives in theaters on May 5.
