GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Director James Gunn Reveals How Many Times He's Tried To Use MICRONAUTS' Bug

There's a lot of confusion surrounding whether Marvel Studios has any claim to the Micronauts characters Marvel Comics created, and James Gunn has now shared some insight into his dashed hopes for Bug.

If you're a Micronauts fan, chances are you've heard of Bug. The character was introduced in the pages of that comic book series, but later became a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, serving on the team during the Annihilation storyline and again in 2012. However, there are a lot of complicated rights issues at play, and Hasbro actually owns Bug and the Micronauts.

Marvel Studios could potentially use some Spaceknights, but Rom and Bug, for example, are completely off-limits. Filmmaker James Gunn has previously said he'd have loved to include them in his Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but was unable to do so as Hasbro isn't willing to budge!

Now, he's taken to Twitter to reveal just how often he's tried to include Bug in his MCU movies.

"Marvel is not allowed to use Bug in films," Gun reiterates in the Tweet below. "I have tried to use him in all three movies, and was not able. I hope this settles your argument."

Paramount Pictures had started developing a Micronauts movie alongside Hasbro, but the project appears to have fallen by the wayside. Bug is a fun character, so it is a shame he's never been able to join the MCU, and we're sure Gunn had a lot of great ideas for him if he were to join the team. It's just one of those things, unfortunately, and we're not banking on anything changing down the line.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to blast into theaters on May 5, 2023.

Guess he hit his bug-related spot with Peacemaker, then. Why is Marvel not able to use bugs?

EDIT - the edit button is back!! Praise be! Now just keep it this way

James Gunn’s the man lol Just randomly settling internet arguments. Guy is definitely in tune with the people. I like that he seems to readily make himself available for fans of his movies whether it’s theories or Easter eggs. Looking forward to gotg vol.3. I think he’s really hit his stride with Suicide Squad & now Peacemaker. Wasn’t crazy about the gotg vol.2. It seemed rushed maybe idk. I enjoyed it but nowhere near up to par with his latest stuff or the first gotg. Hope Feige can lock him up for another trilogy of films with a different character or group of characters. I could see him doing another group team, Squadron Supreme would be dope but doubtful & seems like a good fit for him

@Tpo81 - yeah, not a fan of GoTG2 at all. I guess finding the exact tune of the first must be hard. It was nearly perfect.

Btw 2014 was great for the MCU, GoTG1 and Winter Soldier!

@TheManWithoutFear - Less comedy, more drama. I can dig it. I want a special effects genius to reinvent the wheel. It's time to get away from powers that don't feel weighty. I want better emersion. Here's hoping we get more than expected.

@dragon316 - and Spider-Man, and Mantis too. Marvel is breaking the law! How do they keep getting away with this!? I think I saw a common house fly in Age of Ultron too. It’s getting ridiculous.

Now, that's giving me a feeling that Paramount & Hasbro is going to develop a Micronauts film(s).

They need a Micronauts film based on the first 12 issues of the original series. Don’t stray from the characters or the plot and just stick with telling the story with these characters. Doesn’t matter how much it costs to buy the rights; Marvel/Disney can afford it.
