GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Poll And Spoiler Discussion: Share Your Thoughts On Latest MCU Movie Here!

For a time, it looked like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might not happen. After offensive jokes James Gunn made on social media resurfaced (which he'd already apologised for), Disney decided to part ways with the filmmaker and neither the fans nor the franchise's cast members were happy.

Warner Bros. wasted no time in enlisting the director to helm The Suicide Squad and, thanks to Marvel Studios' intervention, the House of Mouse saw sense and got Gunn to agree to return and finish his trilogy.

Since then, he's been tapped to oversee the rebooted DCU as DC Studios' co-CEO and Vol. 3 serves as his farewell to the MCU.

"As heart-wrenching as it is hilarious," we said in our review earlier this week, "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is James Gunn’s masterstroke and a showcase for both his filmmaking talent and a cast that makes everything about this movie simply awesome. An absolute triumph."

That's what we thought, but now it's time for you, ComicBookMovie.com's loyal readers, to share your thoughts. While our review awarded Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, our poll means you can also give the movie a star rating!

We also want to give you all the chance to talk spoilers in a place where there's no risk of ruining the movie for anyone else.

With that in mind, we want you to head down to the comments section where you can share your thoughts, theories, and more on the latest Guardians of the Galaxy movie. First, though, make sure to cast your vote in the poll below!

Yes.

All the great things about the first movie without the dance off at the end.

As emotional as you are going to get in any movie anywhere but it's a wide range of emotions from happy to sad to horrified to elated.

Bringing it full circle to Missouri was unexpected but perfect.

A rare happy ending for all, except the dirtbag bad guy.

Movie was great, but not without its problems. At 2 & 1/2 hours it is long, which isn’t a problem so much as there is a bunch of dud humor (a BUNCH) that takes up a surprising amount of time, and often. And the music, which is great, doesn’t often feel as organically placed as the other two movies.
But, everything about Rocket’s backstory is gosh darn tear-jerking and kind of pretty disturbing for any animal lovers. Movie had me in tears a few times. The High Evolutionary is a despicable hatable villain in every good way possible; really nasty fellow, and a great seething performance. Angry Gamora is an absolute highlight to have back from Vol. 1. Groot feels short-shrifted, but he has an awesome grin-inducing moment or two here or there all the same. (There is one simply incredible one-shot action take with the whole team; worth it all alone.) Not sure yet if I think it’s more solid overall than Vol. 2, but I do think it has the better and more invested feeling story. It goes to some more personal feeling places.
Great cap to this trilogy, and by this point in the story definitely the most emotional one.

@MosquitoFarmer - if I had one nitpick about going to the well it would be with the scene with the three Abilisks. It seemed too forced and let’s try and get a callback pop on steroids. It was werily like the Super Death Star legion in The Force Awakens in that way, which I detested.

Still…..phenomenal movie

@SauronthePower - Yeah, I feel there were several moments like that that just felt questionable at the least. But I am so eager to watch the movie again and again. I’m so used to watching new releases at home that there was a moment or two where I found myself wanting to hit my keyboard to pause or rewind the movie, only to remember that I can’t and am too spoiled on that. Really, so good. And not that I’m as harsh about this Multiverse Saga as others, but this movie just being its own thing (as it should be) and not touching on the multiverse was really nice. The movie had enough to live up to, and it darn succeeded as far as I’m concerned.

@MosquitoFarmer - My only real nitpicks would be where it deviates from the comics, because the movie was pretty perfect.

So it's primarily based on Rocket Raccon's origin (as told in the brilliant Rocket Raccoon mini by Mike Mignola). The movie was very very different from the book. I didn't mind it all that much though and he did homage the Mignola style with the designs of the Orgoscope guards.

But I really missed these guys,

The Black Bunny Brigade, led by Blackjack O'Hare, a staple of Rocket Raccoon comics. They would have been a pretty neat addition to the MCU.

Also Phylla Vell, aside from looking nothing like Annette Benning, I would've liked it if she were older and had known Drax's daughter when they were younger. Drax could reveal that he knew they were girlfriends and that he would then see her as the daughter-in-law he never had. But since he did mention his daughter when he met her, it's implied that she does remind him of her, so he probably does see her as a kind of daighter anyway.
I also liked that we saw her as part of the team and that she does display her powers briefly in that end-credits scene.

@SauronthePower - i thought it was ok, but being told guardians die, made me think this moment was going to go tits up

@ObserverIO - they can still do blackjack down the line.

The rest of that comic is just way too zany to even do justice in live action.

@Goldboink - There were ~30 kids from a church youth group in the show I saw on Friday. You could've heard a pin drop after that line.
Phlegmbot

@MosquitoFarmer - ALL of that, man! Yes, yes, and yes! I thought a LOT of the humor felt forced too. I agree on angry Gamora, but for me it just was too much b/c Drax and Nebula were pretty dour this time too. As was Peter. So it just started to feel like a LOT of very angry people...as opposed to a lot of very problematic or damaged people (as it was previously). The music WAS forced. Rocket's story was great but just too darned long for me. In the theater I was in, 2 groups left by the end of act 2, I don't blame them. And, to be clear, they were groups of adults.

Vol 2 was similarly disconnected (its plot made zero sense and it just felt like a bunch of action sequences strung together)...but SO much fun, I didn't care. My biggest complain in 2 (vs. 1) was that every moment of character development stopped the story cold; unlike the first one (ex.: compare Rocket's organic scene w/Drax "He called me a THING!" vs. Rocket and Yondu or Gamora and Nebula sitting for a chat -- inorganic).

The last 3rd of Guardians 3 was pretty great.

Sorry for the long post. 😁

10000% they should make High Evolutionary a Kang variant and have Chuk Iwuji be the big bad for this saga. It's a perfect setup with a great actor.

Drop Majors now, I was never really down with him anyway.

@ShellHead - i actually thought of this too a while ago. I think Chukwudi's performance is very well received.
Toonstrack
Toonstrack - 5/6/2023, 1:37 PM
@ShellHead - lol thats a terrible idea. High Evolutionary doesn't even have the same goals as Kang does.

And the jury's still out on majors. Hes a good actor. If they can keep him they should.
TheHumanSpider2

@ShellHead - Nobody cares about Kang, it was an stupid concept and an stupid character, saved by a good actor.

Also, interchanging black characters would be...odd.
