According to The Hollywood Reporter, Avatar and Star Trek actress Zoe Saldana is in talks for another sci-fi venture: Marvel’s forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy space epic. The action thespian is in negotiations to join Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista in the James Gunn-directed 2014 adaptation, playing the female lead character. Gamora, described as the “deadliest woman in the galaxy,” is a green-skinned trained assassin and the last of her humanoid species, Zen Whoberi, who were wiped out by the alien race known as the Badoon. In Marvel Comics, Gamora is also the adopted daughter of Thanos, the Mad Titan that cameoed in the mid-credits stinger of The Avengers film last year, but eventually turned on the purple supervillain and joined the Guardians of the Galaxy. Anyhow, Zoe Saldana, 34, will soon appear in the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness, action thriller Out of the Furnace and is set to reprise her Avatar role in 2015 sequel. What do you think?

Marvel Studios presents “Guardians of the Galaxy”—A big space epic featuring an unlikely cast of Marvel characters, including Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot and Rocket Raccoon, who must team up in order to defeat a cosmic force of epic proportions. So far starring Chris Pratt and directed by James Gunn from a screenplay by James Gunn, “Guardians of the Galaxy” is based on the Marvel comic book series “Guardians of the Galaxy,” first published in 1969 and revived in 2008. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures will distribute “Guardians of the Galaxy” on August 1, 2014, in 3D. In addition, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; the sequel to “Marvel's The Avengers” on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

Although I'd like to see some other actress who hasn't already been in movies like Avatar and Star Trek, she'd be awesome.

I was hoping for Gemma Arterton or Lynn Collins. But Zoe will do. Hopefully she picks up weight and muscle for the role. How tall is she?

Cool, I never really liked Gamora in the comics, so I don't really care who plays her.

Anyone know if that Andy Serkis cast as Rocket Raccoon was an April Fool's thing? I never looked back to see if it was confirmed or not.

She did fine in Avatar, she looked good in blue so I expect she would look just as fine and green. She definitely can move well and sell the fight scenes.

What do you guys expect? That chick from Star Trek's? She could only exotic dance.

All in all casting is falling nicely into place. I'm crossing my fingers for a few "cosmic" guest stars

I feel like I'm seeing Zoe Saldana everywhere.
I'd like them to cast someone who isn't everywhere, like they did with Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista

:(

I hope this is purely a rumour.

Great casting choice. It's a shame people are down on this, because she's a big name, and she's been in other movies.

You know what happens when you want to get smaller names for a blockbuster film...You get John Carter. Good movie, but bombs at the box office.
