Dave Bautista On DUNE Role: "I’m Not Just A Guy In Guardians Walking Around Shirtless & Saying Stupid Sh*t"

Dune actor Dave Bautista has thrown a bit of shade at his role as Drax in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy movies during a new interview. Find out what he had to say here...

Dave Bautista has always been outspoken when it comes to the movies he's appeared in, and doesn't tend to shy away from voicing criticisms. Now, the WWE Superstar turned actor has, once again, thrown a bit of shade at his Guardians of the Galaxy role.

While speaking to ABC News, Bautista said he felt "blessed" to have landed the part of Glosu "The Beast" Rabban in Denis Villeneuve's Dune adaptation, taking the opportunity to aim a little dig at Drax in the process.

"The thing with this character was it just gave me an opportunity to showcase a different type of performance. And that’s what I really love about working with [director Denis Villeneuve], I get an opportunity to show myself as a performer in a different light. … I’m not just a guy in Guardians [of the Galaxy] walking around shirtless and saying stupid shit. [The role] really just gives me the opportunity to just play these like really, really deep characters. So that’s a blessing."

Bautista has expressed his frustration with his GOTG character in the past, specifically when it comes to how he was utilized in Vol. 2. While this is understandable to a degree - many fans also felt that Drax was turned into a bit of a joke in the sequel, after all - it's a little curious that he considers Rabban - a slack-jawed thug who has a lot less screen-time than Drax - to be so much more fulfilling to play.

Then again, the Baron's brutal nephew will return for Dune: Part Two, and will likely be given more to do this time. Bautista is also set to reprise the role of Drax for GOTG Vol. 3, but something tells us we won't be seeing him in the MCU after that!

What do you guys make of Bautista's comments? Be sure to share your thoughts down below.

He’s right he was a guy with a shirt on saying almost nothing. Big difference 🙄

@Ha1frican - to be fair I'd imagine his role in part 2 to be much more expanded. The guy can act though, his part in Blade Runner 2049 and the accompanying short (prequel) was deep.

@Ha1frican - I like him a lot and think he can actually act and have range, but have to agree here. I only remember two or three scenes of him in Dune (part one) and wasn’t much depth there.

@Ha1frican - I bet 50 bucks on Drax getting killed off in GOTG3

Ok. Go back to wrestling.

@Whoisholiday - he's got acting chops but he's kinda thick headed. The role of Drax required 2 things, a physical build to match the character, and acting ability. He has trained hard at both and shouldn't be bothered by either asset. I understand his frame typecast him, but in reverse Brad Pitt will never be cast as Drax either due to his pitiful tiny frame, the weakling.

@KWilly - Fisher had the edge on him. At least Dave has Dune Part II if he doesn’t do anything stupid by then

@AmazingFILMporg - for a guy loyal to James Gunn, that wasn’t a very pro-Gunn statement.

You would think a guy would be more grateful for this opportunity rather keep complaining about it.

@defenderofthefaith - What’s funny is he was initially and now he’s got enough clout that he’s talking down about it. He said at Comic Con during the first Guardians panel how much the role meant because no one would take him seriously and offer him and roles other than goons and mercenaries. Now that Drax has made him a household name and helped him transition into a more serious actor he talks down on it and it’s kinda sad to see.

@Ha1frican - It's almost as if he got a few serious roles from Guardians of the Galaxy and is now embarrassed for it. Despite playing the same character in What we do in the shadows. I don't respect actors like Hugo Weaving who take on these roles and then bad mouth them when a better role comes along in the future.

I like his character tho. I guess these actors take it personally and feel they’re made to do deeper things and things more meaningful and it’s more than just a paycheck. But after just watching Infinity War again it cracks me up with some of the stuff he was saying.

“Drax how long were u standing there?” An hour. Lmaoooo

Remember his comments on F&F films? He said he only does "real films" then he ends up in 2 dumpster fire cringe films🤔

Is this guy trolling?

@Kadara - It's phenomenal.

I just read the book for the first time (after seeing the film) and I can say, it's a brilliant adaptation of the first half of it.

I'm not one to write negatively but wasn't it his friend James Gunn that gave him such a comedic role in the guardians film?
