Dave Bautista has always been outspoken when it comes to the movies he's appeared in, and doesn't tend to shy away from voicing criticisms. Now, the WWE Superstar turned actor has, once again, thrown a bit of shade at his Guardians of the Galaxy role.
While speaking to ABC News, Bautista said he felt "blessed" to have landed the part of Glosu "The Beast" Rabban in Denis Villeneuve's Dune adaptation, taking the opportunity to aim a little dig at Drax in the process.
"The thing with this character was it just gave me an opportunity to showcase a different type of performance. And that’s what I really love about working with [director Denis Villeneuve], I get an opportunity to show myself as a performer in a different light. … I’m not just a guy in Guardians [of the Galaxy] walking around shirtless and saying stupid shit. [The role] really just gives me the opportunity to just play these like really, really deep characters. So that’s a blessing."
Bautista has expressed his frustration with his GOTG character in the past, specifically when it comes to how he was utilized in Vol. 2. While this is understandable to a degree - many fans also felt that Drax was turned into a bit of a joke in the sequel, after all - it's a little curious that he considers Rabban - a slack-jawed thug who has a lot less screen-time than Drax - to be so much more fulfilling to play.
Then again, the Baron's brutal nephew will return for Dune: Part Two, and will likely be given more to do this time. Bautista is also set to reprise the role of Drax for GOTG Vol. 3, but something tells us we won't be seeing him in the MCU after that!
