Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has previously spoken about several scenes that never made the final cut of the movie, and he's now shared an image from a deleted moment he refers to as "Last Supper of Groot."
As you can see, the still pays homage to Leonardo da Vinci's iconic mural depicting The Last Supper, which has been endlessly copied and parodied over the years. Groot represents Jesus, while Drax seems to be in Judas' spot, and the rest of the Apostles are unnamed aliens. We assume this sequence would have taken place in the Boot of Jemiah bar on Knowhere.
Gunn has been busy putting the finishing touches on The Suicide Squad ahead of its August release, and is currently working on the HBO Max Peacemaker spinoff. However, he did recently confirm that he will begin production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 before the year is out.
Zoe Saldana teased her return as Gamora last week, and, of course, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and the rest of the intergalactic A-holes are set to join her. There's been rumors that Adam Warlock will make his MCU debut in the movie, but Gunn seemingly debunked the report, so we still don't have any solid intel on what to expect.
