Despite hopes that Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman would reunite for another Hellboy movie, the franchise is getting an R-Rated reboot (which makes a lot more sense when you really think about it). Stranger Things star David Harbour will be taking on the title role and in a new interview, screenwriter Andrew Cosby - who penned the movie alongside Christopher Golden and creator Mike Mignola - has shed some light on what exactly we should expect from this iteration of the beloved character.
"I can’t really talk about specifics with regard to the story, which they’re keeping a pretty tight lid on at the moment, but I can say that this is a darker, more gruesome version of Hellboy," he teased. "Neil [Marshall] said from the very beginning that he wanted to walk a razor’s edge between horror and comic book movie, which was music to my ears, because that’s what I was shooting for in the script, and precisely what Mignola does so well with the comics." That sounds like the right approach!
"Honestly, everyone has just been working overtime to bring that Mignola magic to the big screen," he concluded. "The script is done, but work will continue as we move forward, always trying to make it the best it can be." That's a pretty positive update and regardless of the disappointment surrounding the lack of Del Toro and Perlman, the reboot definitely appears to have a lot of potential so far.
In other news, Harbour has taken to Twitter to "comment" on being cast as Hellboy in this movie.
