Anthony Mackie Calls ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER "The MATRIX Of This GENERATION"

Speaking with Screen Rant, Anthony Mackie - seen in films such as The Adjustment Bureau and Real Steel - talks about his role in his next film, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - based on the novel of the same name, which depicts the 16th President of the US taking on vampires. Mackie comments on the training/fighting sequences of the film, saying that the action is 'unlike anything' that we've seen before. He also said that he's seen an initial cut for the movie, while also commenting on how much of a game changer it really is.

On The Tone And Fight Sequences In The Film...
“We did a ton of training. I can honestly say that Timur is amazing because he shot this film like it was a real like biography of Abraham Lincoln, but the action sequences are unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. He realized that this fabricated story is so far out there that he had to go all the way out to make it work. So he just went as far as he could with the CGI and that trademark Timur cranking of shots and the storytelling.”

On The Cinematic Flavor Of The Movie...
“If you like those type of movies it gives you an aspect of history, but it also gives you an aspect of filmmaking that you’ve never seen before… It’s crazy. I saw it about two weeks ago and I didn’t know how to describe it for a day and half. Everybody kept asking me and I was like: I’m very happy I’m in it.”

On Vampire Hunter's Impact On Film...
“I feel like the great thing about it is being able to do a pleasant mixture. Just recently I was able to do a play, two independent films and one big crazy studio film. But ‘Abraham Lincoln’ is like the ‘Matrix’ of the next generation. It’s going to do to film what ‘The Matrix’ did to film.”

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is scheduled to hit theaters June 22nd, later this year.

The book was amazingly good. I'm really looking forward to this film! The way they handled the Lost Colony of Roanoke was really cool.

Ugh...Mackie. Would rather see Mos Def or Aldis Hodge in any role Mackie has ever done. Except Papa Doc, he was okay in that one.

As for Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, sounds promising, hopefully they'll work that into the abolition of slavery and the Klan or something actually historical.

Really looking forward to this, I really hope it turns out to be good. And I think Anthony Mackie is an underrated actor imo, I wouldn't mind seeing him in a comic book movie role, not sure who though.

I say impress me, tim burton. I expected Alice in Wonderland to be the Matrix of this generation, if we're being totally honest. That story is pure insanity, and suits your directing style to a 'T'. I was disappointed in the rather stale, reheated TV dinner that I actually saw. Even your wife's enormous head only got a few chuckles there. It was a boring epic, the nuttiness of wonderland was toned down and goth-ified by the plot itself, and the jabberwocky was a predictable ending. I know this is somebody else's story, so maybe the results will be different in Lincoln. Here;s hoping...
