"His suffering is only the beginning."

We're not sure what the unfortunate protagonist of Beaten to Death did to deserve such a nightmarish experience, but seeing the poor bastard endure all manner of tortures in this first trailer does not make for a very pleasant watch.

In the extreme horror movie from Welcome Villain Films, we witness a man named Jack being violently beaten while his wife lies dead nearby. After managing to dispatch his attacker with the aid of a broken bottle, Jack heads down a path that "leaves him beaten and bruised as he struggles against man, nature, and his own insanity.”

“Stranded in the middle of nowhere after barely surviving a horrific assault, Jack encounters one local after another and quickly learns that a sick game of cat and mouse is about to begin. Battling the deranged country psychos and the harsh landscape, Jack must go to extreme lengths to survive.”

The trailer doesn't reveal exactly why Jack is being put through the ringer or how he wound up in this situation, but we've heard that the story has a few twists and turns along the way, so things may not be as straightforward as they seem.

Beaten to Death had its world premiere at Australia’s A Night Of Horror International Film Festival, and the extreme violence on display has stirred up a bit of controversy.

“Beaten to Death is an absolute beast of a film, and is the type of boundary-pushing gut punch that the genre needs right now. It floored us,” said Luke LaBeau, Welcome Villain’s head of development. “Not only is it loaded with extreme, unrelenting violence, but it is just an incredibly well-made film on virtually every level.”

The movie releases in select theatres on September 1.

Movie got some great buzz. Too bad it's ugly as hell. Young filmmakers need to find their way back to celluloid.
