Well, it's fair to say none of us saw this coming! Made for just $35 million, IT has now crossed the $500 million milestone at the worldwide box office. As a result, it's blown away the 44-year record held by The Exorcist as that was previously the world's highest grossing horror movie with over $441 million.

That's actually one of the longest-held records in cinema history so the fact IT has now topped it is extremely impressive. IT is also the biggest horror movie ever in countries like the UK, Russia, and Australia, and as the movie has yet to open in Germany and Japan, we can expect this number to rise.

"Crossing $500 million is rarified air for any film, but for a horror film it is history-making, and we could not be prouder," said Warner Bros.' Sue Kroll in a statement today. "The filmmakers and cast did more than make a box office hit; they created a communal, must-see moviegoing event that has reverberated around the globe and is still going strong. We congratulate Andy Muschietti, the extraordinary producing team, and everyone involved in ‘It’ on reaching this amazing milestone."

A sequel has already been confirmed for September 6th, 2019, and Muschietti is expected to direct the movie which will focus on The Losers Club as adults as they return to Derry to put an end to Pennywise once and for all. However, you have to believe Warner Bros. is mulling over spinoffs which could keep this franchise going for a long time to come! What did you guys think of IT? Sound off down below.

[frick]ing excellent movie. Might be my favorite of the year.

I hope this means we will be getting more big budget horror films.

Even though they will probably be a bunch of remakes, because [frick] Hollywood, but maybe a few will be as good as IT.

It deserves ALL the $$$ its getting and then some more but lets not forget this so called beating the 44-years old "record" is just one of those marketing words.

Very great horror flick. It had everything. I want to see more characterization for Pennywise in the sequel. Every scene he was in was pure horror movie magic. I want to see him go all out with his capabilities in the sequel.

I wonder if this means that Hollywood will consider adapting remakes of classic horror films?

If so, I'd love to see "Child's Play" get a very gruesome and horrific story being remade. Those straight to DVD sequels won't cut it for me. Chuck deserves another go.

I seriously think this movie could do $1 Billion in the Global markets. IT has yet to release in several major foreign countries and is halfway there already. The fear of clowns is universally felt the world over, AND this happens to be a VERY well done film to boot, AND it's a STEPHEN KING adaptation (quite possibly the world's most popular living author)

AND...

Whether it stays in theaters the whole time or not, imagine how many people are gonna see this again for Halloween?! I'd be surprised if the studio wasn't already planning a re-release. Let's not forget that Avatar once pulled a similar tactic to boost it's total earnings
