The first trailer for the James Gunn-produced Brightburn got everyone talking, and now Sony has released a second look at the horror-tinged supervillain origin film, which features a lot more footage of the incredibly powerful, but inherently evil alien (Jackson A. Dunn) in action.

This movie is clearly a not-so subtle riff on Superman's early days in Smallville, and everything from the Man of Steel-like trailer titles to the hint of a red cape in the shot above points to a delightfully dark retelling of the iconic DC hero's origin - if he happened to be a murderous little SOB, that is.

Check out the new trailer below and let us know what you think. Brightburn also stars Elizabeth Banks, David Denman, Matt Jones and Meredith Hagner, and is set to hit theaters on May 24.

What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.
