David Slade is certainly no stranger to vampires, he's directed '30 Days of Night', as well as 'The Twilight Saga: Eclipse', and now he's jumping back into the genre as director for the upcoming film 'The Last Voyage of the Demeter'.
The film will be based on a segment of Bram Stoker's Dracula, recounting the legend of a ship that transported Dracula from Translyvania to England, all the while torturing and murdering the ship's crew one by one.
Ben Kingsley and Noomi Rapace are reportedly already attached to star as supporting characters while the producers are still looking for someone to star in the leading role. Heat Vision is reporting that Bragi Schut wrote the script for the film which is being produced by Phoenix Pictures.
Here's a brief synopsis of the book:
A Russian ship, the Demeter, having weighed anchor at Varna, runs aground on the shores of Whitby, England, during a fierce tempest. All of the crew are missing and presumed dead, and only one body is found, that of the captain tied to the ship’s helm. The captain’s log is recovered and tells of strange events that had taken place during the ship’s journey. These events led to the gradual disappearance of the entire crew apparently owing to a malevolent presence on board the ill-fated ship
I've never read the book, nor heard about it until now but I loved '30 Days of Night' so I'm really interested in this film as of right now, depending on who gets cast as the lead actor, which could make or break a film like this. I definitely think it seems like a role suited for a relatively unknown actor.
