Wow?.. I did not know this was even in a plan for a remake?.. It seems Hollywood is trying to erase the names of every known director and legend we know of.. John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Ray Harryhausen.. *sigh*

Need we all be reminded that John Carpenter's version was itself a remake. When Hollywood resorts to remaking a remake, there's problems... anyone ready for a new version of Psycho?

Isn't it a prequel?

And before anyone starts it has been a comic book, in fact quite a few mini series by DARK HORSE!

I hope they capture the mood of the Carpenter version, the whole feeling of not being able to trust the few allies that you have against such a disturbing creature was awesome. I hope they don't use much CGI

When was it ever announced that a remake of The Thing was being made? It's supposed to be a prequel.

If not, then I've lost all faith in the world. The thought of someone remaking one of the greatest horror movies of all time (and arguably, the best adaptation of John W. Cambell, JR's "Who Goes There") is sickening.

After the way Rob Zombie molested the Halloween franchise, I don't think i could take another remake of a John Carpenter classic.

Its not a remake, its a prequel to John Carpenter's. It's about the Norwegians finding the ship in the 1st place. As for the CGI...well, there will never be a film with as many physical effects as there was in Carpenter's. Its easier now to just CGI stuff now. For the record though, there was some still frame animation (CGI of the 80's) in Carpenter's. The most depressing thing about this though, it will probably rated "PG", which will suck. In today's market, editors are too afraid of the "R" rating for fear of a loss of audience. The side they are missing, is they are losing even more with the "PG" rating. Sure, they will get the guys and a couple girls in the late teens to early 20's, but no one from the group who were around when Carpenter's version came out will go out of their way to see this. The odd thing is though, some one in marketing is aware of this. When movies like this come out on DVD, there is usually an unrated version.

@Overcross

Clash, wasn't that bad. I was disappointed about the Bubo character being replaced by a joke about it, but it made more sense then the original. I always thought it was odd that Perseus was willing to die and marry Andromeda after meeting her once.

GAAAAAAAAAAAY.
It will be nothing but terrible low budget CGI.
Look at the original movie, the special effects they used in that are still visually stunning to this day.
And quite frankly, adding women into the cast is a [frick]ing retarded idea. It'll just lead to some terrible "female empowerment" moments, and those are never good.
[frick] this movie, and [frick] anyone who pays money to see it.

@bookofoa, Carpenter's version wasn't really a remake of the 50's "Thing From Another World" any more than Hammer's "Dracula" was a remake of the Lugosi film; it was a separate (and far more faithful) adaptation of the same original short story (but your point is well-taken)

ThunderCougarFalconBird - 4/8/2010, 8:55 AM
at least a prequel is better than a remake. Still, imo, if they were going to touch this franchise they should have based it on the old PS2 game. That game rocked (with the exception of the really easy final boss) and it scared the living piss out me in a way only 'dead space' has managed since.!

I am tired of remakes and reboots why can't people think of something original like Carpenter and all of those other geniuses did years ago. I guess the filmakers of today do not have the imaginations and creativity of the ones before them.
