When Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters was announced, many were taken off guard. The announcement of the sequel was a surprise considering the decent box office performance of Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, and the studio's persistance regarding the film's female comedian cast. Months after the film's announcement, the film already has its lead ensemble set, with production starting this summer.

According to Geeks Worldwide, production got Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters sequel starts on July 14th in Calgary, Canada. As of now the film stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace. Expect more casting to be revealed in the coming weeks, in addition to a confirmation whether or not the original cast will be returning for the sequel. The movie is currently aiming for a July 10, 2020 theatrical release.

The film is proving to be very personal for director Jason Reitman, especially due to the fact that his father Ivan Reitman brought the original to life in 1984.

Keep the budget low, cast actors based on talent and their chemistry together (regardless of gender, sexual orientation or race), hire a director that understands why the original worked and don't demean and attack the paying fanbase when you realize you made a big pile of garbage

That's it! Formula for success.

Is Ghostbusters really deserving of a franchise anyway? The original cast was "lightning in a bottle". Do we really need sequels?
