Paul Feig's Ghostbusters hits US theaters this Friday, and, while everybody's talking about it, it's not the kind of buzz Feig and Sony Pictures were hoping for. Even before the first trailer hit at the beginning of March, fans of the 1984 classic were jumping to conclusions and pounding away at their keyboards. Then the first trailer dropped and... yeah, it was bad. The angry fanboys (and fangirls) now had reason to freak. The hate-filled comments came thick and fast. Some of my favorites include:
"Movie is suck",
"Looks awful and stupid, only you want my Money but i don't give my Money for this chitt.",
and "pls don't watch this Feminist propaganda".
Suffice to say, people weren't (and still aren't) happy.
Now, this trailer was bad. The second one was fairly funny. But in the past few weeks, five or six clips have dropped. They. Are. Not. Funny. Most people haven't watched them, because they've already given up, but there are a few good jokes and one of them has some pretty neat gadgets.
What I'm saying is, the apprehension this production has been met with is COMPLETELY warranted. But even today, a mere THREE DAYS before the film's release, people are still campaigning to keep Sony from releaseing the movie. If you're doing that, stop. You're delusional and dumb. Because this movie is coming out. Soon. And you're not going to stop it.
Look, I don't think this movie will be great, maybe not even good. But as I write this, it's sitting at 77% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's Certified Fresh, folks! More likely than not, Paul Feig and crew know what they're doing. And even if this thing isn't great, you can still go watch the original. It's not like the original movie isn't still out there or still amazing. The new one will not, I repeat, will NOT "ruin your childhood". Because the original IS STILL THERE. So please, shut up about the new Ghostbusters already.
