Horror movies nowadays are either lackluster or don't have enough scare factor to really wow audiences. Unless you count Burlesque, there hasn't been a legitimately near-terrifying movie since Paranormal Activity.
How's about this...a movie so terrifying, the MPAA actually bumped it from a PG-13 rating to a solid R for "pervasive scariness"? The MPAA actually gave them an R rating for being too scary for all audiences.
The movie, starring Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce, was originally supposed to be released January 21st of this year. It was developed under Miramax, which has since been sold by Disney, so once the ink is dry on Miramax's sale, the film will be released.
Anyone who is familiar with del Toro's work will surely marvel at the visuals he has to offer.
Here's the official synopsis and a teaser trailer. Enjoy!
Introverted Sally Hurst (Bailee Madison) has just set up residence with her father, Alex (Guy Pearce), and his new girlfriend, Kim (Katie Holmes), when she realizes that their expansive estate holds a bevy of secrets. Investigating the depths of the house, Sally finds a secret lower level that has gone undisturbed for almost a century, when the original builder vanished, leaving no evidence. When Sally accidentally opens the gateway that kept the creatures incarcerated, she realizes that in order to keep them from decimating her family, she must persuade her skeptical father that monsters DO exist.
