Johnny Depp Talks Dark Shadows & Pirates 4

While Johnny Depp is in the news for his new film, The Tourist, which co-stars Angeline Jolie, there's also excitement building over the next Pirates of the Caribbean film as well as his portraying vampire Barnabas Collins in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows.

Offers Depp, “It was a gas going back to Captain Jack. It was like starting fresh for Pirates 4. It’s a clean slate. We tied up the subplots, and I can liken it to starting the first one again. This one is more character driven and not convoluted. We have fresh faces and great new material.”

On the subject of Pirates, the Hitfix website offered up a tremendous exclusive for Depp fans: "HitFix can report that Disney has begun quietly telling cast and crew to set aside a major block of time in the very near future so they can shoot Pirates 5 and Pirates 6. And, yes, once again, they will be shooting them back-to-back as one giant film, and then they'll release them as two films. It's a bold plan. Doing it once is risky, and that risk absolutely paid off for Disney in the long run. But Pirates 4 is already the single highest greenlight budget of all time, and it must look like the only sound way to get another trilogy out of the franchise, shooting two films together. At this point, I don't think there's any doubt that Captain Jack Sparrow will be the defining role of Johnny Depp's career."

Perhaps, but the actor hasn't played Barnabas Collins yet. Unfortunately he didn't have too much to say about Dark Shadows, though his enthusiasm for it was obvious: “We start in April, and I can’t wait to sink my teeth in. Bad pun, I know. I can’t wait to start and get into that dark mode."

Although the comments were brief, it was immensely reassuring to fans that he's looking at Dark Shadows and the role of Barnabas as something that will allow him to get into a "dark mode," thus quelling fears that Burton could go campy with the film.

LEEE, very rarely do we agree utterly... this is one of those moments ;P

My pops loved this show and when I was a kid he forced me through a great deal of this series on VHS and I found it pretty boring. Barnabus is the only memorable character after all these years though, so I'm somewhat interested.

I like how Pirates 4 is going to be like the first and have its own, closed ended story. 2 and 3 did have to many subplots. I'm glad they've gotten rid of Orlando Bloom's and Keira Knightley's characters. They weren't as interesting Captain Jack Sparrow and Barbossa.

I am looking forward to Dark Shadows. Depp is a great actor but I am getting a bit sick of Tim Burton. He just isn't hitting the same standard of Batman, Beetlejuice and Ed Wood.

Depp as Dr. Strange? Outstanding idea!! He would totally nail it. At least eveerybody's shut the Hell up about him playing the Riddler. I just couldn't wrap my brain around that.
