New Behind-The-Scenes Picture from Johnny Depp's DARK SHADOWS

A cool image of a ghoulish underwater scene being prepared for Tim Burton's take on the classic 1960's vampire soap opera. Also, an original cast member of the TV show responds to Helena Bonham Carter's negative comments.

Kathryn Leigh Scott who played Maggie Evans in the original television show says that she was surprised that Helena Bonham Carter would disparage her soap opera. Helena in a recent interview had this to say about Dark Shadows, "a really bad, hilariously bad soap opera."

Kathryn wrote a letter to the Dark Shadows News Page:"Lara Parker (Angelique) and I, who both play cameos in the new Dark Shadows film, are surprised by Helena Bonham Carter's comments because they do not at all reflect our wonderful conversation together on the set. She was eager to hear about Grayson Hall, who played Dr. Julia Hoffman, and we were only too happy to tell her about our old friend."

"Helena and Michelle Pfeiffer (Elizabeth Collins Stoddard) were both into watching the original episodes and we all laughed about the famous bloopers, which were indeed 'hilariously bad'... However, we take pride in the original series, bloopers and all. Our budget for a single episode of the series wouldn't pay for a tea break on the set of the new film, Yet our series has become an enduring classic for over 45 years!"

And Kathryn was through, as Helena Bonham Carter also said that the movie would be a hard sell. Kathryn disagreed with that view as well, stating, "The new movie should be an easy sell to the legions of fans who ran home from school to watch the original and the multitudes of young new fans drawn to us each year."

Dark Shadows also stars Helena Bonham-Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Chloe Moretz and Jackie Earle Haley and will be with us May 2012.

Tim Burton hasn't had an original idea since Edward Scissor hands. Overrated.

Come to think of it I have only enjoyed two Tim Burton movies. Beetlejuice and Big Fish (or whatever it was called). Everything else has been all "style" and no substance.

Yeah, Burton's films have been entirely hit and miss. His Batman movies and BeetleJuice were good, but otherwise he's not a good director. He's even remaking his own film Frankenweenie, not to mention the awful Alice In Wonderland (highly overrated IMO).

Who thinks that Depp would've been the Riddler in a third Burton Batman film?

This is sad. I was very excited about this film at first because I was one of those kids who ran home after school to watch the original show. Depp could have been a great Barnabus Collins and the movie could have filled a need for an intelligent Gothic vampire romance, in contrast to those vapid Twilight movies. Instead, Burton came up with a ridiculous looking mess that I wouldn't go see if you paid me to.

It's obvious that the Burton/Carter/Depp cabal decided to use Dark Shadows for a quick money grab. The sad thing is that they'll probably get their money, but not from me.

why does Burton still get to make shitty movies? and why does Depp continually return to doing these retarded roles? i would like the guy more as an actor if he expanded his repetoir of characters he plays.

Burton is a great cinematographer that got incredibly lucky. He has great visual understanding, but nothing improves in his grasp of character, pace, editing, performance. As an example watch Batman Returns - the rooftop fight between Batman and Catwoman - nothing follows logically, none of the cuts flow, probably because he was shooting on a tiny roof-top set and trying to disguise the shots which would have revealed the ceiling. But he has not advanced as a director.

johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, huh? everyone is sick of the pair being in your movies, Burton. Isn't that hideous Helena Burton's wife?

I like Burton's work, but not this pair again

Burton's overrated and as for judging movies who the hell wanted a movie of this mostly forgotten except to a handful of fans. Burton just needed some Gothic movie to fulfill his quota for the next few years to the studio or it his therapy for whatever madness he has going on in his effed up mind.

@SithLord why have a forum if we can't post opinions dumba$$ as for kid my 43 years thanks you my kids not so much

I think Burton was a visionary director but now he's kind of dry on ideas. Beetlejuice and his Batmans are very good movies, and then you've got Planet of the apes and Charlie and the chocolate factory which really sucked. Let's see if he can deliver this time.

I watched Dark shadow in the 60's when I was a kid and I watched the remake. I didnt like the remake at all. I have just finished watching the original series again on netflx and hope that Johnny Depp does a good job as Barnabas. If I dont like the movie I will let you know.
