Sam Raimi Won't Direct New Evil Dead Flick, Find Out Who Will

It's a shame, and many fans will be disappointed but Raimi will only be producing the new addition to the Evil Dead series. The director will be..

Brett Ratner! Only kidding. Bloody Disgusting have unearthed who will step into Sam Rami's shoes for the new installment in the Evil Dead franchise..

In an exclusive scoop, we're told that Fede Alvarez (Federico Alvarez) is directing for Raimi's Ghost House Pictures and Madnate. The remake was announced way back in 2004. No word on casting or if Bruce Campbell will return.

The site also reveal that Raimi will be on board as producer, and the movie will be a "quasi-remake". I assume that means it will tell roughly the same story but not EXACTLY the same, and hope beyond hoe that Bruce Campbell will be involved. Alvarez has only previously directed the very impressive short film Panic Attack! back in 2009. Check it out below.

So what do you guys think of this news? Groovy?

Bruce Campbell MUST return. As ASH! Not just some throwaway, non-consequential cameo. That way, it doesn't matter if it's a remake. I mean Evil Dead 2 was a remake-come-sequel of Evil Dead. And, you know, Evil Dead itself was a remake. Did you know that? He made an even cheaper version, before remaking it as Evil Dead.
The More You Know.

[frick] this shit. I was all for a 4th movie thinking Raimi was directing and it wasn't a remake.

this is gonna do nothing but disappoint me. I'm not a horror fan in the first place but these movie's are special. now i have no interest in seeing this film. Damn.

What has two thumbs, a CBM member and is not excited about this crap movie?

THIS GUY
Seriuosly, No rami? And if No Bruce Campbell? This movie will fail big time. You can't have an Evil Dead movie without Bruce and Rami. You can't. And in order for this movie to be awesome, it would have to be really cheesy special effects. If its Avatar FX material, then this movie would suck.

Im happy this is getting a freshly start for a remake. The FIRST 3 are classics , BUT HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE MORE SERIOUSE, AND HAVE A DARKER AND REALISTIC TONE TO IT.

Also bruce cambell is way to old for this, and he has been a crappy actor and in very crappy movies in the last 15 years. I will love cameo from him and thats about it.

It's gone from promising to "I have near to no interest in this movie" in a matter of hours. No Raimi is a massive blow but a "quasi-remake" of a movie that has already had a "quasi-remake" in ED2 hints toward no Bruce and a tiered glossing of a cult classic!

THEHAWK - 7/12/2011, 11:58 AM
He has to be Ash.

My idea for an Evil Dead would be a remake of the first, but halfway through it, old Ash (Bruce of course) comes back because of the Necronomicon and tries to keep his younger self and friends alive.

THEHAWK - 7/12/2011, 12:00 PM
@Warlock. Bruce is not a crappy actor, he himself says he enjoys being the Brando of B movies. He is a solid actor who just picks roles that are fun.

He was great in Bubba Hotep, giving a fairly serious, if satirical, performance.

This movie does not need to be remade. Balls.

CapFan79 - 7/12/2011, 12:09 PM
Wasn't Evil Dead 2 a quasi remake? Why can;t they just make a 4th one? Wouldn't Ash be a manager at S-Mart by now?
Herosave
Herosave - 7/12/2011, 12:21 PM
Why don't they just have where it's a continuation of the movies? You know, have where Ash must take up arms again, but this time he's joined by his son or daughter or some other young character so they can reel in a more contemporary cast for today's audiences since that seems to be the direction they are wanting to go. Or heck, go ahead and do their remake but then do a sequel that is an actual continuation of the original set of movies where Ash crosses path with the new version of himself, like cross the universes. Just like in the Evil Dead/Marvel Zombies crossover.

I'm not worry about the director, he's from Uruguay and eventhough he's young that short film he made looks awesome; and considering the very pleasent surprise I got from Neill Blomkamp on district 9, it could work very well.

I'm only worried about the story. I hope Bruce Campbell comes back and at least they change the story quite significantly so they don't ruin the original.

Evil Dead was stupid. I'm sorry, but it was. I watched it because it had such a high approval rating on rottentomatoes, and the fans were so passionate about it. But once I saw it, I thought it was a terrible movie. I don't understand why it is so respected.

I prefer a sequel over a remake, but oh well I'm sure it will still turn out awesome, I just Bruce Cambell is involved in some kind of way.

You can do an Evil Dead movie without Sam Raimi directing. But you can NOT do an Evil Dead movie without Bruce Campbell starring. It's unimaginable, it's abominable, it's incomprehensible!

@CaptainDusty - Ditto. I don't give a french fried blue flyin' frick about this movie if (a) Sam Raimi isn't directing or (b) We don't have old-man-ash kicking some deadite tail. Anyone who wants to say "But Bruce is too old.." Go watch Bubba Ho Tep. Then tell me that it wouldn't be awesome to have a feature about an old, retired, out of shape, alcoholic Ash (who's lived a life of luxury because he wrote a book/books/signed every media deal he could about his dealings with the deadites), having to kick it back into gear because the deadites are back.. :)

No remake, sequel. And if Bruce Campbell isn't in this it wont even be worth pirating...

And for all you that hate the movie, THEY'RE A SHITTY MOVIES ! THAT'S WHAT MAKES THEM SO GREAT !!! Your not watching them because they one an Oscar...
DarthTesla
DarthTesla - 7/12/2011, 7:58 PM
@SeanTwisted: Seriously! I'd even settle for a Straight-to-DVD version, if it meant we'd get Raimi/Bruce.

Why a remake is necessary for such a cult classic is beyond me. It's like if someone wanted to make a sequel/remake of The Big Lebowski, and NOT cast Jeff Bridges.
SeanTwisted
SeanTwisted - 7/12/2011, 8:11 PM
I actually read something a while back about them doing a Big Lebowski sequel. But yeah, It's a slap in the face/cash grab for Sam if he actually agrees to it and there's no Bruce involved. I would accept a Direct to DVD as well.. Unless (And this is optomistically speaking) Sam and Bruce are going to pull the ol' wool over the fanboy's eyes.. I mean, Bruce has been involved with a LOT of ED stuff over the years - video game wise.. So who knows.. A horror fan can dream.
DarthTesla
DarthTesla - 7/12/2011, 8:31 PM
That's true, the video games, comic books etc.

And yeah, he was amazing in Bubba Ho-Tep. And it's not like Bruce is even that old! He's still kicking tons of ass on Burn Notice, why is it so ridiculous to think he can't put the metal hand back on and kill some deadites??
