SCREAM TV Series 'Ghostface' Mask Officially Unveiled In Full Detail

We've seen brief flashes of the re-designed Ghostface mask in the trailers for the SCREAM TV series but never have we gotten a really good look at it...until now!

While our first look at the Ghostface mask was technically when the first trailer was released, the mask was cloaked in shadow and was only seen for a brief flash (you blink it, you miss it). Some time has passed since the first trailer for the show was released and MTV has now released a promotional picture of the mask, providing us with our first clear look.

As previously reported and from what could be made out in the initial trailer, we can now see for ourselves that the new mask is quite a departure from the original. Providing an explanation for this departure, executive producer Jaime Paglia told Entertainment Weekly, “The [original] mask is so iconic. If you were to have that mask in a television series, but you weren’t following any of the characters [from the original], I believe that would be misleading the audience.”

Another one of the show's executive producers, Jill Blotevogel, compared the mask to that of other classic horror movie killers: “[The mask] evokes some of the Jason [Voorhees] hockey mask and the white Michael Myers mask, but it’s still first and foremost evocative of the Scream mask. It’s sort of a reinvention while also paying homage.”

Famed horror director Wes Craven, who directed all four of the Scream films, does not seem at all offended by the changes made to the mask, saying that “The new mask is cool and scary and takes the series into a new direction. It also ties into the story, which I won’t give away.”

SYNOPSIS

After a cyber-bullying incident results in a brutal murder, the shocking violence stirs up memories of a killing spree from the past that has haunted some, intrigued others and maybe just inspired a new killer. A group of teens — with two old friends struggling to reconnect at its heart — become lovers, enemies, suspects, targets and victims of an assassin who’s out for blood.

The pilot airs 30 June on MTV.

Welcome, I am Darkknight2149. I am primarily a fan of comic books and their various adaptations, as well as horror and other classic film franchises.

As far as the "DC vs. Marvel" rivalry goes, I'm really not biased when it comes to studios and publishers. Preferences are fine, but I've never understood the basing of opinions purely by the studio/publisher that makes it.
