AMC, Regal, and Cinemark Cease Online Sales of Iron Man 3 Tickets due to Disney Dispute

AMC and Regal, two of the largest theater chains in the nation, have halted advanced ticket sales of Marvel's upcoming Iron Man 3 over a dispute with the House of Mouse over how the box office is split. While this may not sound like a big deal, if the argument isn't resolved quickly, there's a very real possibility that the film won't play at all on any of the chains' 800+ theaters!

The argument came about several days ago when Disney wanted to renegotiate their current terms with various cinema chains around the country. The new deal would give Disney a great portion of the revenue from box office returns not just for Iron Man 3, but many of their other upcoming releases as well. Needless to say, movie theaters chains weren't exactly okay with this new deal and AMC and Regal have decided to fight back against it.

At this time, 3 of the largest movie theaters chains have ceased online pre-sales of Iron Man 3 tickets, until a resolution can be agreed upon between Disney and the theater chains.

While it is possible that Iron Man 3 wouldn't be shown in those theaters if an agreement isn't reached, chances are they'll get it sorted sooner rather than later. Seeing as how it's going to be one of the largest money-makers to come out this year, I don't see either side wanting to drag this out any longer than they have to and miss out on potential sales. Even so, it's a scary thing to consider.

Tickets are not selling at Cineplex's in Canada either. They used to have the marathon listed on their site. As of this morning it is no longer there.

sucks.

Is there any thing that says you can't completely copy and paste someone else's article like this? I know the source is credited and linked, but still seems incredibly lazy. If I was the original site, I'd be annoyed since you've given the reader no reason to click over.

Hey come on guys, go easy. Times are tough for everybody and fair play to Disney for wanting to recoup some of the money they've no doubt lost on those impossibly shitty (in a post Marvel Legends/Universe world) IM3 figures that look like cheap knock-offs.

This is a stupid article. This will be resolved ASAP. There is too much on the line not to.

That's Hasbro's bad, not Disney. And the figures seem to be selling just fine in my area.

@ruadh - tell that to the stores in my town. All the shelves are full of IM3 figures; yet turtles, batman, marvel universe and avengers go out of stock the moment they're in!

Except Avengers Hulk, there's loads of him. Boy, that figure sucks.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk. Just don't see how telling your stores makes any difference. Toys sell differently in areas, the world's an imperfect place.

Yeah, I get that a lot of fans are disappointed. I bought a few, just because they sit on my shelf. I bought a few others for my son, since they're perfect for a little guy. I realize I'm in the vocal minority.

Have you ever heard the term "a figure of speech"? I was not implying that you ACTUALLY hop on a plane and ACTUALLY go door-to-door telling the proprietors: "Hey, what gives? These sell really well where I'm from!"

...and I wasn't really going to hop on a plane.

If Disney wants more cash they should start to build their own movie theater chain , they have enough movies lol .

@youknowmyname

Because I had no intention of hopping on a plane to do something pointless? Life must be pretty fast paced for your area too, if the biggest tragedy for you is concerning action figures.

What would be amazing is if you're in the LA area too.

Who said anything about a tragedy? I made a comment about merchandise, which you seemed to take some issue with. But then again, I've never really understood why people would want to start an argument with a complete stranger but hey, I guess that's LA for you.

I didn't really take any issue with it, just shared my experience on the matter. You're the one who said my life must be very dull, so I commented on your tragedy. Just as stupid of a comment on you as you made for me. Jeez, if you can't keep up with your own posts, I see little reason to continue this back and forth.
