Tahir sheds light on The Mandarin's future in Iron Man 2.

On whether or not Tahir will appear as The Mandarin in any future sequel Tahir states:

"I don't know. My answer to that is that we created the character, not by accident, but by design, with a vague future. You can spin it many different ways and it should make sense, was the idea. One is this guy who has a connection to Mandarin at some point... or is this guy someone who might become Mandarin at some point? There's a case to be made -- and a pretty good one -- that two guys, who in the belly of a cave, almost like a womb, emerge out of that womb and one becomes Iron Man and one becomes Mandarin. There's a case to be made for that.

Tahir goes on to say-

"I think that's why they left the character open. If you remember the movie, [Raza] doesn't die. The same thing happened to Tony Stark: He gets paralyzed then comes back out of it.

If you're going to do a movie about Iron Man, you will have to, at some point, address Mandarin. We don't know when or how. They had asked me to be available for later times, if need be. So, we will see.

When asked if Tahir is in Iron Man 2:

"So far I don't think I'm in it. Things change very quickly. I know the direction that they're going in for the second one and to be very honest, it makes sense."

On the direction of Iron Man 2 Tahir states:

"They're going in a different direction, a different part of the world, a whole other challenge for Iron Man. If I do end up being in it, it will just to keep that story alive. If they do that."

MANDARIN should appear in the future some how, as he's IRON MAN's JOKER!!! ; ) (Maybe the guy who plays him gets a tiny cameo in IRON MAN 2 for a teaser)?

are you holding a long pointy stick and shake it at the screen as you post?

I think Mandarin will have a cameo. Wasn't it already confirmed that they figured out how they were going to bring Mandarin into the movies?

UHHH...the Mandarine is...uhh Mandarine.

Tahir isn't Mandarine; he isn't even oriental. How can he be the one to play the Mandarine in the future?

They better not **** the Mandarine's back story up.

...and how can he not have an appearance in the 2nd movie. He was foreshadowed plenty in the first.

Things aren't adding up just yet, but I'll reserve judgement until more information (official) is released.

Yeah... in the film he says the "one who owns this ring" or something along those lines stating that he knows the mandarin

On second thoughts I remember reading that quote but not actually hearing it when I watched it again. Although their terrorist group was called the 10 rings!

Learn how to spell dude. It's Mandarin. The way you're spelling it would be an orange tinted Mandarin. (Manderin + tangerine). I doubt this movie will be as messed up as Deadpool.

"orange tinted Mandarin?????"

...what are you talking about? ...but thanks for the spell check.

Faran Tahir reminds me a LOT of James Preston Rogers. They both think they have some kind of entitlement to a role that noone other than themeselves want to see them play!
(Personally, I hope they bring him back for the next film, and the REAL Mandarin turns him into a pile of ash 3 minutes into his appearance.)

I wonder how they will do his rings...

And how they will make him an equal to fight Iron Man..

Yeah, i was never a big fan of The Satsuma, i mean if you cant even get into a deck of Marvel Top Trumps you know your a 2d rate villain! Granted not many of Iron Mans villains ever really get much attention but theres a reason for that..THEY SUCK. Its one of the reasons i was never a fan of Iron Mans solo comics, i always liked the character but only as part of the Avengers or some other cross over. Sorry to any fans of his out there but im pretty sure i wont be alone on this..

Because studios are so concerned with being "realistic", they probably won't include his magic rings, and the fact that they'd even consider this guy for the Mandarin is ridiculous. The Mandarin is CHINESE! But knowing the douch-bags in hollywood, they're probably worried about offending the Chinese and making them look evil, so he'll be decidedly American.

He should be played by Yun Chow fat, and he should be a MAJOR villain, like a military weapons dealer in the east who funds the Ten Rings, he finds alien tech that crashes and understands it and makes new weaponry out of it that make him seem supernatural

Soul eater, I like where your heads at. I agree, but he doesn't even really ahve to be a weapon's dealer. I mean mandarin was a peasant before he found that crashed alien ship wasn't he?

You're not...

I always enjoyed MODOK though... Creepy little bastard. But I think he was only a main villain for the animated series.

Comic book movies are so complicated these days. Forgive me for not being a "true fan" or whatever, but how come everybody is so critical about the details in the movies? I mean, come on guys...anyway, how come they got a first pic of Iron Man II and this guy doesn't even know if he's in the movie or not? Lol. Are they making it up as they go along?

BuckyB7588: As much as I hate to say it, you're probably right. It wouldn't be surprised if they changed his name to the "Tangerine", and made him a roadside fruit vender with an amazing ability to squeeze fruit juice onto advanced technology and make it short circuit!
(Sorry, still a little jaded over Wolverine... Good movie, by the way.)
ManThing
ManThing - 5/4/2009, 7:35 PM
@Fartman: That's because the details are very important. They make the character what it is. The more you remove those details, there is a loss of authenticity. And it becomes some egotistical hollywood ass clowns own private version instead of the version you know and love.

The Mandarin is one of Marvel's best villains/characters. Getting him right is equivalent to getting the Joker right in Batman; you can't swing it any old way you want...YOU CAN'T.

Besides, the Mandarin is very interesting. He's a politician, scientist, and philosopher, but he's also a general and a conqueror.

Here's how they need to go about this guy. First, he needs to be chinese. Second, the ten rings need to be alien; dont try to explain it realistically. Just make them what they are; they are ALIEN...and I want to see the Makluan ship and an actual Makluan. Third, they need to either have ULTIMO or FIN FANG FOOM; these were two of the Mandarin's most powerful weapons he used against Iron Man. It would be bad ass to see one of them on the big screen ripping up the planet giant Transformer style.

The guy is already really interesting, and his origins are not all that hard to explain. Again, this is one character in the Marvel universe that you can't **** up. If you just follow the comics, you can't go wrong. Everybody will be happy.

The old purist that I am, I have no problem with Tahir as the Mandarin, as long as they get the rings right, and as long as the basic origin is right (I accept that there will be some tweaking of it no matter who ultimately plays him). And to hell with "realism", since we know that you can't "realistically" have ten rings with those cool powers. They're freaking alien. Alien technology is like cartoon stuff: you can do almost anything you want, with "it's alien tech" being the only explanation needed for how it works.

Maybe that is who The Avengers will have to fight in their movie? Unless they do the alien invaision or stopping the hulk.

Eh, I'm not sayin' details aren't important. Good point Juggernaut. Just sayin', origins: wolverine was still cool with the details changed...but still. Details matter
