IRON MAN 3 Wrap Poster

IRON MAN 3 Wrap Poster

We recently saw the wrap posters (limited-edition posters for the film's cast and crew) for Thor: The Dark World and now we have a look at the one made for Iron Man 3. The imagery will remind you of classic novels like The Three Investigators and The Hardy Boys.

The above image comes courtesy of EW and their Cape Town Film Festival. They're giving one lucky attendee the chance to take home the above poster that was made exclusively for the cast and crew of Iron Man 3. The art style definitely harkens back to the yesteryears of classic Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew novels. No word yet on the artist behind the poster but a name will probably surface soon.

UPDATE: Poster was created by Paolo M Rivera who also did the wrap poster for Captain America: The First Avenger which featured the Super-Soldier socking Adolf Hitler.

things i learn from ironman 3:

spoiler alert!

spoiler alert!

spolier alert!

- main baddie can breathe fire. and no, he's not in the circus.

- main baddie is a direct copy of schumacher's riddler: same idol worship, same motivation, same transformation, even same hairdo. who ever thought the schumacher bat films were useless?

- ex-girlfriend got shot in the face, and tony can crack joke a minute later

- current girlfriend plummet to certain doom, and tony can crack joke a minute later

- bombs explode, people die, and the film is all jokey jokey jokey

- mandarin is a joke, literally. make the silly concept work for film or dont use the concept at all. a joke has its place.

- "i am the (real) mandarin!" is a lame chicken shit move.

- i lost count how many times the mark suits coming apart was played for laughs.

- main baddie can breathe fire.

- lava men is a silly cheap & cliched concept that belong in a supernatural/buffy/x-file/whatever episode. it's a small screen concept. on the big screen it looks utterly cheap and extremely stupid.

- pepper knows karate. or wait, maybe the extremis gave her fighting ability. oh, but it turns people into human bombs... but wait, it also give you super strenght, and regenerative power(except a scar on a henchwoman face), and you can breathe fire and have molten lava hand, and and... sigh... whatever dude.

- main baddie can rip apart mark suits barehanded when even thor's hammer cannot do that.

- main baddie can regenerate himself into existence after being blown to pieces, and seconds later he got blown to pieces again and he's dead this time. what the??!!!

- cliche no 1: baddies try to kill hero many times throughout the film, and once they got him, they tie him up and main baddie start monologuing then put 2 idiots to in charge to guard him.

- cliche no 2: a lesser baddie questioned the main baddie's plan and immediately lesser baddie got shot in the face to show the audience he's a just big meanie.

- cliche no 3: a superhero's girlfriend fall from great height.. again.

- legion armors apparently can only be used in a dock setting and only at night(so we can have fireworks.. yippieee!!!), that's why tony didnt bother using them the first few times his life was in danger.

- pepper, rhodes, tony, henchman, and potus all have the same exact body type and size, hence they can all fit into tony's mark suit.

- wait, you're telling me tony can remove the scraphnel from his chest by surgical procedure anytime he wants??? then why the hell made us suffer through ironman 2?

- tony quit at the end for love, just like bruce wayne. only tony forgot the whole world and every alien in the universe knows his secret identity, so good luck staying alive without your armor, dude.

- did i say main baddie breathe fire? bringing the real fin fang foom into this film will not make it any more cartoonish.

@cloudrider - Regarding "main baddie can breathe fire".

Below is the comic (well, motion comic version) the movie was partly based off. You'll notice that the Extremis soldier does actually breath fire when fighting Tony, my friend.

@ cloudrider - although I'm not really into spoiling movies before they've aired in they home country, like the states (has it been released there yet? not sure) I agree with basically everything you've stated. Iron man 3 was fun and pretty much entertaining enough, but in allot of ways, and in hind sight, it confused and made little sense.... Just MO

I'm not a hater, coz I by no means hated the movie, I just can't help feeling like it didn't fit with the overall theme of the MCU movies nor did it open the door for phase 2.. Unless I missed something? It was interesting and different I'll give it that. Love don't hate :-)

@Lenbert: i read in interview that shane chose x-mas because it's the time of year when people are merry and with family, thus will make the lone hero feel lonelier and isolated.

didnt get that while watching ironman 3. kid sidekick is always around to crack jokes with tony.

some loved ironman 2. now it's universally hated. in due time same thing will happen with ironman 3.

@cloudrider - Well, as far I know Man of Steel isn't based on the Krypto the Superdog comics. Nor is Batman Begins/The Dark Knight/The Dark Knight Rises based on any Bat-Mite story.

@cloudrider - The baddie needed Tony, remember what he just did in that scene? He wanted Tony in his side after "opening" a new researcher position.

Some of your points even had potential for a nice discussion. But I don't know if that's just the language you used but your comment has a strong hate feeling. So I'll pass.

SPOILERS
@Lenbert - You can say you didn't like what they did to Mandarin, but c'mon it hadn't a purpose? Did you pay any attention to the movie? It was Killian plan to take control with the VP (previously with the president) and he needed a Bin Laden-like escape goat. He was into it since before IM1 (the Ten Rings organization apparently was his idea).

About Rhodes, agreed. But as a government puppet / military asset I understand he wasn't ready or authorized to get into action. I'd like to see some explanation on that though.

Mark 42 was a prototype, remember he couldn't even fly?

I'd like a phase 2 tease too. But the scene was funny, at least.

@cloudrider
[SPOILERS]
The main baddie might have similarities to Schumacker's Riddler, but he's better executed and is a character in a good movie, whereas the Riddler was in an all-round bad movie. I don't remember Tony cracking any jokes when his ex died, although if he did it was probably to annoy/confuse the guards (Tony's snark is basically another weapon). Tony didn't crack any jokes when he thought Pepper was dead - in fact, it's one of the few times in the series we see him genuinely angry.

The Mandarin worked fine, but I can understand why some people might not like the changes made. I think the suit falling apart for laughs happened twice, which isn't all that much. Extremis allows people to breathe fire in the comics too, it basically allows the ability to generate/manipulate fire (or become molten), regenerate tissue, enhance strength (in the comics it also allows electrical powers, so it's toned down in this version). Also (admittedly this isn't explained well in the film) Extremis is only compatible with some people - these people get powers, while the incompatible blow up (Killian says this when he tells Tony that he's injected Pepper with it).

Thor never tried to break apart Tony's armour with his hammer - although he does crush one of the arms in their first fight (barehanded), and also rips off his mask at the end.

As for the armours only appearing at the end - you clearly hear and see through the film that the rubble of Tony's house is blocking the exit from the hall of armours. They can't leave until the recovery crew working there clear the debris, which happens toward the end.

The armour Tony wears through most of the film is not only detachable, but when it attaches to someone else it fits itself to their body type as it constructs the joints around them, which is how it fit Pepper, Killian and others as well as Tony. As for Iron Patriot fitting both Rhodey and The President, you can assume something similar, or just leave it to suspension of disbelief.

The reason Tony didn't have the shrapnel removed before is because he felt, ever since he escaped from Afghanistan, that he needed the Iron Man armour, and that the arc reactor was what made him Iron Man. Removing the shrapnel would mean he had no excuse to keep the reactor in his body, and thus he wouldn't think of himself as Iron Man any more. This film was about him realizing that he doesn't need his armour or the arc reactor as he will always be Iron Man.

Tony quit at the end to spend more time with Pepper. Fortunately, if he ever gets into a jam, I'm sure he has a long list of people he can call to save him (War Machine, The Avengers, SHIELD).

It's fine if you don't like the film, you're fully entitled to your opinion, but your list makes it seem like you were hardly paying attention as you watched.

@Lenbert [SPOILERS]
Yes, Black's films usually take place at Christmas. It's his calling card, like all the women in Hitchcock films being blonde, or pop-culture references in Tarantino films, or slow-mo in Zack Snyder movies, or lens flare in JJ Abrams films.

However, Black managed to make the movie in a way that Christmas also held a symbolic meaning. Christmas, obviously, is the most significant part of winter for most countries. Winter is the end of the year. This film dealt with what could have been the end of Tony's time as Iron Man, or at least his anxieties and desires to always be in his armour. Thus, Christmas is symbolic of this film being the winter of Tony's tenure as Iron Man.

Plus, Christmas also has the religious connotations around the birth of Christ. So, Christmas could also be a metaphor for Tony Stark being reborn, without the need for his armour.

@Godzillafart Well, usually, a "certified fresh" stamp, which is a solidification, doesn't appear until reviews are settling in well passed 200. IM3 got the stamp while it was under 60 reviews and THEN, it has the "certified fresh pick" link on the front page which usually doesn't come out until a film has completely opened, the meat of the reviews are in (close to 300) and the film has been out at least a week. IM3 was certified fresh at 90% with barely 60 reviews. I've never seen the certified seal go away once it's obtained. How do they know what the ratings will be with only 60-something reviews BEFORE full release?

Both THOR and TDKR had certified fresh numbers but didn't get the stamp until later, let alone the "certified fresh pick" on the front page.

@cloudrider - couldn't have said it better myself. I might have also included how the opening of the film is lifted straight from Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and doesn't suit this franchise at all. However I personally didn't take the ending to mean Tony had quit, just that he doesn't need the shrapnel excuse to don the suit, much in the same way Rhodey doesn't (although I can't believe Rhodey had ZERO screen time actually fighting in the suit, unbelievable).

@ACira - I stopped reading when you said "just leave it to suspension of disbelief"!!

@Gus:
so you're saying shane black wants to make a faitful adaptation of ellis' extremis? is there a guy named trevor in that storyline? no? you mean shane picked and chose what to use and what not to? he can do that???

look, make the silly stuffs from the comic work for film. find the rationale and make it work. if you cant, just drop it. cherry pick other stuffs or invent new ones. shane obviously think fire breathing is silly as well, and yet he chose to put it on film but played it as a one time gag. ditto with mandarin. but hey, the audience laughed, so that's all good for shane.

he'll be a perfect director for the bat-mite film. or maybe batmite, krypto, and that purple monkey from superfriends could team up, call it justice pets or something. i'm sure shane has an endless reserve of witty one-liners for them.
cloudrider
cloudrider - 4/30/2013, 6:56 PM
@Fogs:
yeah, the baddie needed tony so bad they even blew up his house while he's in it, and later they dropped a watertank on him, and on purposes too.

as for the mandarin misdirection. shane has a choice to play it straight and serious, but opted to play the twist as a gag. that's the problem with this film. everything is played for cheap laughs.
cloudrider
cloudrider - 4/30/2013, 7:16 PM
@ACira:
ex-gf got shot in the face, later on there's a funny scene involving the two guards. pepper fell, and later tony's mark suit fall apart and he made joke about it.

thor's hammer doesnt treat tony's mark suit like paper.

did you see tony calling for the legion armors at anytime during the film but the climax? no? then the rubbles blocking the exit is just your own justification.

no no... the reason the armor can fit every body type is becuase it's actually made of foam and rubber. that's why killian and his henchmen can easily destroyed them too.

if scraphel could be removed earlier tony didnt have to suffer palladium poisoning in movie 2. again, you're trying to rationalize it away.

cloudrider - 4/30/2013, 7:19 PM
@Kung[frick]oala:
tony quit. he blew up all of his armors at the end with none left. sure, he could always build another one, and WE KNOW FOR SURE he will build another one, so that makes tony's decision to quit extremely lame and extremely useless.
