When Clark Gregg made his appearance known in 2008's Iron Man movie, no one truly knew the scope of his character. After all, Agent Coulson had never appeared in Marvel Comics before the movie was released. Not only has the introduction of S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury's apparent go-to-guy been important to tying the different films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe together, but his newly released backstory in movie material all on it's own.

Marvel has just released the latest addition to their digital comics line, PHIL COULSON: AGENT OF S.H.I.E.L.D.. Not only does the story fall neatly into Marvel movie continuity, but it will give readers a better perspective of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s ongoing battle with the secret terrorist organization known as the Ten Rings.

Written by Joe Casey and illustrated by Felix Ruiz, follow along as Agent Coulson and a rookie S.H.I.E.L.D. operative are drawn into a terror plot perpetrated by the insidious organization, the Ten Rings. Along the way, he will need to draw upon the help of the deadly covert operative known simply as Black Widow.

Is this a digital comics exclusive? I hope not. I'd LOVE to read this, but I don't have a subscription to digital comics.

@mcirish: I'm not sure, but I think that I read somewhere that William Hurt is going to be in "The Avengers". With Tony showing up at the end of TIH, he NEEDS to be, anyway. I doubt he'll be in CAP.
