In this article i am going to look at some of the armor suit Iron Man has worn over history throughout comics and animation that i would like see in future installments of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I will also be looking at how i would like them to be designed for the movies.
OK, i guess to start we should look at the armor on everybody's mind. When it was announced that Marvel was connecting its franchise in to one continuity and that the first two film were to be The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man one of the first thoughts to pop into my head was of this suit; The Hulkbuster
The idea of seeing Iron Man face off against the Green Goliath in a suit specifically design to fight the Hulk gives me chills, and if this does happen in the Avengers movies then i think a lot of us fanboys and girls will be very happy.
As for the design of the suit, though i was never very keen on the box like design of the version featured in the "World War Hulk" event; it just looked plain ugly and i cant imagine RDJ's Tony Stark wanting to be in such a thing, the idea of Stark being able to eject from the Hulkbuster wearing his normal armor suit was great addition. And while the classic first appearance Hulkbuster armor has its charm, most notably the practical (not hand holds) dome shaped head guard, it does need updating to a more plausible looking suit.
The version used for the video game is a good representation but in my head i personally see the design more akin to that of Iron Monger's suit in "Iron Man" (2008), its large frame and giant gripping hands are the features i would look for in the Hulkbuster armor.
Using that as a base model, even as far as incorporating that idea into the movie by saying something like Tony took that design for the armor and redid it top to bottom as a heavy load armor which General Ross will describe as a "Hulkbuster" as is the way they like to comic names in these movies, change the color scheme to the red and gold and find away to be able to fit the Iron Man armor within it and cap it off with dome head piece.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The second armor id most like to see at some is a
Space Suit Armor. I say "a" as there have been many armors that Stark has taken into space during his time in the comics yet none have really done anything for me.
However, after watching the fifth episode of Marvel Anime's Iron Man entitled "Arc Station Infection", i have now seen how Iron Man's Space Suit should look and how it should be presented on the big screen.
Having a large detachable booster system added to the armor, allowing it to breach the upper atmosphere before the fuel tanks and and booster harness detach, much like real life space craft, was well done. Also forcing Stark to have to use a plain white color scheme to reflect solar radiation, was the correct touch especially as we see how much the dullness of it annoys him.
Story wise, i expect it to be a while before Stark has any real need to venture into space but with those cosmic threat lurking one day it seem likely he will.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Keeping on the exploration theme, next in the line up is the
Sub-Aquatic or Hydro Armor. I know the classic yellow design is a little garish but then again most exploration submarines are yellow. Why?, other than the Beatles song, no clue!
Built to survive the the severe water pressure the bulkiness of it is justified, i would like to see a lot more tools and lights on it for use as an under water exploration vehicle.
As where its to be used maybe cutting a certain someone out of some underwater ice in the arctic.
Note: During the production of the first Iron Man film, concept art by Phil Saunders had this design for an Underwater Suit, however i think Yellow is more fun.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the final suit that i would like to see make an appearance, i am going with the
Stealth Suit. This jet black, sometimes dark blue, suit is undetectable by radar and is for covert mission in places Iron Man shouldnt be.
The classic comics version doesn't really work in this instance, for a stealth design you are looking for more flat surfaces; much like the technology seen in stealth planes.
During the production of the first Iron Man film, concept art by Phil Saunders had this design for a Stealth Suit which looks great. I still think a few point can be improved mostly the head area and colors are too close too War Machine but the general design, especially the legs, really does look right.
After being so easily detected by the Air Force in the first film, you have to think Tony was looking at radar absorbing materials and designs just in case he had to fly into territory where he shouldn't be.
And there is my list, hope you enjoyed it. Feel free to comment below. I may shortly be doing a list of suits i DONT want to see on screen and giving my reasoning, but we will see how this one is received first.
