Despite performing slightly better than originally predicted, it is currently unlikely that we will ever see a sequel to John Carter. Disney has already revealed that they are expecting a loss of $100 million and it's hard to imagine the studio ever making enough from the film to warrant them greenlighting a follow up. Regardless, the mixed response has done nothing to deter star Mark Strong who had this to say at yesterday's Jameson Empire Awards while talking to Red Carpet News.
On The Mixed Response To John Carter:
"Well, it's mixed isn't it? Some people really liked it, some people really hated it. But that seems to me to be most films are like that. The Guard was the same. Everybody loved it, everybody hated it. Tinker Tailor, you know. A lot of people love it, a lot of people it's not their cup of tea."
On What It Was About The Project Which First Appealed To Him:
"I think Andrew Stanton is a genius. He's an amazing storyteller, having made Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Wall-E. The artwork was incredible and the kind of epic story was amazing. All the boxes were ticked for me on that one."
On Whether We Will See A Sequel:
"I don't know to be honest. I have no idea."
