Speaking with Reddit users on the AMA (Ask Me Anything) board on 20 March 2013, producer Adi Shankar, whose credits include Dredd 3D, the short film Punisher: #DirtyLaundry, Killing Them Softly, and The Grey, answered questions as to whether Dredd 3D would spawn a full-length sequel. His statements varied as to whether the sequel is fully, 100% dead in the water, but it appears the prospect is highly unlikely at best. At one juncture, Shankar stated that there would "probably not" be a sequel. Shankar elaborated, explaining that because the movie "totally bombed" and R-rated movies are difficult to sell to begin with, creating a sequel would be tough. Later in the chat, Shankar seemed to fully commit to there being no sequel: in response to yet another fan's plea for a sequel, Shankar explicitly stated that it was "[n]ot going to happen =(". At yet another part of the Q & A, Shankar stated that even though a sequel would be enjoyable, it is "highly unlikely". He did, however, express a growing interest in Kickstarter as the discussion with Reddit users progressed.
Despite the somber news for fans of the ultra-violent film, Shankar also mentioned that he is working on a Judge Dredd short film. He did not clearly state that this short film would serve as a sequel to Dredd 3D and he did not answer a question as to whether Karl Urban would reprise his role as Mega City One's enforcer.
Thus, it appears that we very likely will not see a full-length sequel to Dredd 3D. However, a Dredd short film may serve to satisfy the character's fans. What do you think? Are you disappointed that there very likely will not be a full-length sequel to Dredd 3D?
