"The main thing about Dredd is that it’s a fantastic comic that was completely messed up 20 years ago. Our idea is to make a very hard, R-rated, gritty, realistic movie of Dredd in Megacity, so we’ve got to get the tone right. He’s not going to take off his helmet. His bike is going to feel real. He’s going to hit people and it’s going to feel real."

"There’s been a change in comic-book movies; they were treated unseriously and now they’re treated seriously. We’ve cast a guy called Karl Urban to play Dredd. We’ll be shooting in Johannesburg, it’s being directed by Pete Travis, we’re shooting with the people who did District 9 – and if we get it right, Alex has a couple of ideas for other stories as well. It’s not based on any one comic, and John Wagner is involved in every decision."

Are you looking forward to this movie? Is Karl Urban the right guy for the job? Share your thoughts in the usual place! Judge Dredd is scheduled to begin filming in the autumn and will be shot in 3D.

He was confirmed a while ago, but the interview we haven't seen before. I'm okay with Urban. Just wish he had more of the signature Judge Dredd chin, being that is pretty much all we will see of him anyway.

Can't Wait!!! They are doing this right and Urban is the right guy for the job. he was a true fan of the character and will do it justice! I mean him saying about them taking off the helmet in the first one made him want to "puke in his popcorn" classic and right!

I have faith in Karl Urban (best performance in Star Trek reboot),so I defiantly look forward to seeing this.I see it's filing in South Africa, but is it going to actually be in the set UK this time?

I'm also glad Rob Schneider isn't going to make a cameo.

@ Brashlight - Jay Leno does.

I think Urban could do a good job as Dredd, as long as the writers give him better dialogue than Stallone had. (Then again, w/ better dialogue Miley Cyrus could do a better Dredd than Stallone did too...)

UnfriendlySpidey: Thanks bud! :) I've never read a Judge Dredd comic book but everything that I've heard about this movie so far has me super excited for it as well! Sounds like they're sticking close to the source material as well which is always a bonus IMO!

@Brashlight: I always thought Dredd reminded me of Clint Eastwood in his prime, chin notwithstanding, it was the scowl that was more Eastwood-like in appearance.

@ teabag

it would been very hard for a comic like 2000 a.d to break into the american market.

with the likes of the x-men,batman,superman & the avengers being as popular as they are 2000 a.d didn't stand much of a chance over their.

not a bad thing,it gave 2000 a.d more of cult following.

I don't pretend to know shit about Judge Dredd, but any time moviemakers stick this close to the source material, I'm all for it. Plus Karl Urban is awesome so I will definitely see this. On a side note, back in the nineties I had a five movie long streak of falling asleep to Sly Stallone's movies, whether in the theater or on video. The movies were, in no particular order, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man, Judge Dredd, Assassins, and The Specialist. Never finished any of 'em. However, I do plan on seeing The Expendables. Thanks for letting me ramble, my peops!

Campbell would have been great 15 years ago, but he's got a nice job on Burn Notice now. I'm good with the pick of Bones McCoy.

Ron Pearlman has the chin! As far as I can tell he would be perfect in every respect. Having said that, I have a lot of respect for Urban after Star Trek so I look forward to seeing what he can do.

@JoshW yeah man! Same here! Its cool, I didn't start reading Dredd until after i saw the Sly adaption....*facepalm* so I think you're in the better position right now haha :D but yes, I am really excited that they're going to do it right this time around!

sounds like they're treating this with the respect it deserves... Dredd is a complete badass and R rated is the only way to go IMO. Why can't Fox follow suite with Deadpool if it ever happens?

Hot dog! This is great news! This is how I wanted Dredd to be in Stallone's version. Karl Urban gonna do just fine. How can you not be excited about this? I am.

Small nitpick, but 1995 wasn't 20 years ago. It will be in about five years. But, anyways, let's see what they can do this go round.
