At the end of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, we see the Dark Knight (Ben Affleck) pay a little visit to a deranged Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) in his prison cell. The villain tells him that the "bell has been rung", inferring that a new threat (most likely Darkseid) will be showing up to cause problems for Bats and his new super friends.
This seems to suggest that Luthor will play a part in facilitating the New God's arrival, perhaps even acting as his earthly herald - but from the sounds of things, Eisenberg won't be reprising the role when Justice League kicks off production early next month.
“I don’t know if they are so settled on where my character goes,” the actor told Business Insider when quizzed about Luthor showing up in future movies. “I only hope I have another opportunity to work with these wonderful people and play this interesting character.”
It's possible Eisenberg is just playing coy of course, but with Luthor in prison it would also make a certain amount of sense if he sat out the first Justice League movie and only reemerged for the second. Either way, something tells me fans will be split right down the middle about it.
