The studio are hoping to make the Justice League movie the 2009 superhero tent pole, and finish production prior to the strike.
Variety confirmed that George Miller is up to direct (duh), and the early rumors that the movie would be a motion capture movie were true, in that WB were considering it, but they have now shifted their focus towards a heavily FX driven movie.
WB have suggested that the team will be made up of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Aquaman, but that Christian Bale and Brandon Routh – stars of WB’s recent Batman and Superman movies – will not be taking part.
Tom Welling was apparently a shoe-in for the role of Superman, but over at IESB, Robert Sanchez has reported that Welling has pulled out and will not be portraying the big man of steel in the Justice League movie. He goes on to suggest that Routh could be a contender, but he is the only one making this supposition, with the majority of pundits looking for a third Superman to hit the screens (Tom Welling for Smallville and Brandon Routh for Superman Returns make up 1 and 2).
Sanchez also adds that the name in the running for filling out the Caped Crusaders black cowl and cape, will be Ryan Gosling. However Christopher Nolan, the man behind the recent Batman franchise, along with his Batman Christian Bale have both made known their disappointment at the JL movie going on without them.
So there you have it, big news for fans of the Justice League, looks like we’ve only got 18 months to wait (ish).
