Following several conflicting reports over the past few months, the official runtime of Warner Bros.' Justice League has now been confirmed to be 121 minutes (or 2 hours and 1 minute) with credits, which makes it the shortest entry in the studio's burgeoning DC Films cinematic universe.
Both AMC Theatres and Regal Cinemas have confirmed the official runtime as has Fandango's managing editor Erik Davis.
Early rumors suggested director Zack Snyder's initial cut of the film would run close to three hours, but it appears as though his replacement Joss Whedon (The Avengers) has trimmed a lot of the excess fat and streamlined the movie into something much more simple and faster-paced - and coincidentally, more theater-friendly as the shorter runtime will allow theaters to schedule additional showtimes.
The biggest DC film to date will now run shorter than all four of its predecessors: Man of Steel (143 minutes), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (153 minutes), Suicide Squad (123 minutes), and Wonder Woman (141 minutes). Now, while the two worst-received films did receive extended editions on home video, essentially as damage control, it's not necessarily a guarantee that the same thing will happen with Justice League as the changes Whedon has made are widely considered to be much more significant than anything that was done to either Batman v Superman or Suicide Squad.
Tickets have yet to go on sale, but rumor has it that they will finally be available next Monday, if not sooner, so stay tuned into CBM for updates.
UPDATE: The runtime has been updated to 119 minutes.
