Would a Justice League Movie Really Work?

From the bottom of my heart, I truly believe that a Justice League movie could work. I really do. That being said, I don't think that we will be seeing a Justice League movie anytime soon.

Let me just start out bu stating what has already been stated many times before me: Nolan's Batman wouldn't work in a Justice League movie. Though his Batman is fantastic, I just can't see him in a movie where he interacts with someone like the Green Lantern or the Martian Manhunter.

I think that in order to include Batman in the Justice League, Warner Bros. will have to reinvent the Batman franchise first, which they already said they are going to do anyway.

Now I honestly have no clue if this new Superman would work in a Justice League movie. I've read that Nolan and Snyder plan to keep him in his own seperate franchise, but you never know. I would love for Superman to be a jumping off point for a Justice League movie, but at this point in time, I really can't say if it would work or not.

With the Green Lantern, I liked the fact that the recent movie didn't really contain references to other superheroes. If Green Lantern is going to be used as a jumping off point for a JLA movie, I would rather them wait to do it in the sequel so audiences will be more familiar with the Green Lantern before having to worry about all these other superheroes.

The way that Marvel has set up for the Avengers has been, in my opinion, genius. I would enjoy if the DC movies had post credit scenes that set up for the next movie, but at the same time, I don't want DC to completely rip off Marvel.

When it comes to introducing characters in their own movies or waiting until the Justice League to introduce them, I'm a little torn. Obviously you have characters like Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and the Flash that deserve their own movie. But their are some characters that I'm not sure about. Martian Manhunter is a big one. I know he is an important character, but I don't know if he deserves his own movie. Other characters like Aquaman or Wonder Woman can support their own movie, I just don't know if I personally would want to see it.

If a Justice League movie was to go into production tomorrow, I wouldn't be very excited. I think that Warner Bros. has to wait and build up their characters first before putting them in a movie together.

I totally agree. DC should introduce them in a JL film and branch out from there.

^Look at Jack's picture, that's already a crazy and colorful team.

A man in an Iron Suit
A 70 year old Soldier from the past
A green monster
A God, of thunder,
Two above average people who have awesome skills.

That's a crazy mix up, I'm very excited for the Avengers, and I cannot wait for it, but if you really think about it, that is one team that in all terms shouldn't work. That's something I am glad Joss Weadon has acknowledged and understands.

Now with the justice league:

a man in a bat suit, who's above average
a invincible man, that somehow still needs a team
a amazonian warrior, who's sexy
a martian who is almost as powerful as Superman
a guy with a ring that can make anything, but hates yellow things
a guy who can run fast
a guy who can talk to fish

Superman alone is a WHOLE TEAM himself. The others just kinda fall behind.

@threebigtacos I understand your skepticism about a Justice League movie and it's well placed. But that doesn't mean it won't work. Though Superman could be a team by himself, he still needs help.

Batman is the world's greatest detective, and he would be able to figure out things before Superman. The Martian Manhunter is a telepath and can read minds.

You have the Green Lantern, whom you say "can make anything, but hates yellow things" Which is a fair point. If you look at it that way, then Superman is a really strong guy who gets sick around a rock.

All these superheroes have certain strengths and weaknesses that, when combined on a team, create a truly unstoppable force.

If an Avenger movie can work (which it most likely will) then a Justice League movie would work. DC and WB just need to get their sh*t together and make good quality movies other than Batman. Green lantern was alright so i would add that to the DC universe and the new Superman is promising so the have 3 down. They could introduce some of the characters in the actual movie tho.

@Supermanbatspiderman: WARNER BROTHERS NEEDS TO GET ITS SHIT TOGETHER.
If it doesn't DC should just break off and join another company.. Paramount would be good..
It would be awkward if Disney took them in as well:p

@Superman17 I agree that Warner Bros. needs to get their shit together, but I don't think that DC should break off if they don't. I think that DC should just stop releasing theatrical movies for a while. Their animated movies are pretty awesome, as well as their TV shows.

Dude WB has DC by the balls. DCcan only release films when WB feels like it. DC doesnt hire the writers/directors/producers...WB does

Good Article.

Personally, I think a JLA movie could work! It's possible.Difficult,BUT possible.
Yeah, true, what does the man of steel need with any of them, but even in the animated series,as well as the comics, Supes needed his team mates,ESPECIALLY Bats. I mean, own their own,(supes, bats,WW,GL,etc) they are pretty damn impressive,BUT together, surely they are a force to be reckoned with, right?
At anyrate, as long as it's written well, good acting,directing,etc...I'm sure the movie can be successful. I know I'll see it and I'm a Marvel fan(who looooves his Avengers). It would be interesting to see how WB/DC faces the challenges that lay ahead.
Until then, Make Mine Marvel and bring on the Avengers!

The problem I see with JL is that the team is TOO POWERFUL. For power levels like that the VFX budget to realistically portray all of them is insane. Then to add to that you must create a villain or villainous force worthy enough to go up against Superman, Batman, WW, Flash, MM, and GL. It's doable in the comics and even then perceptive people will tell you that the story is contrived to facilitate specific characters. But in a live action movie?!? That's a screenwriting nightmare. And of course that villain means the budget is even greater.

I agree with the people who call for a movie in the vein of the DCUO intro. THAT WOULD WORK SPECTACULARLY.

@Superman17-You do have a point there. Warner bros. does seem like it has not been focused lately. they really need to get their act together. I thinkk Universal or Paramount would be good companies for DC to join if they left WB.
Supes17
Supes17 - 8/7/2011, 8:36 PM
I'd go with Paramount. Universal has been really shitty lately.

Paramount is pissed that they lost Marvel to Disney. They want revenge. they would milk DC dry! Like a movie every [frick]ing year!:D

So yeah DC should get the hell away from WB and go to Paramount.

WB claimed that they would make more DC films bc Harry POtter ended, but I dont see it.

@Superman17- AGREED!!! Paramount is a GREAT studio! I would prefer DC leaving WB and going over to Paramount!!

@ Superman17

dude, DC can't just "break away" from WB. WB owns them...

epiclybodacious - 8/8/2011, 7:25 AM
Even though the WB does own DC, I also think that Paramount would be a good fit for DC, as long as they continue releasing the animated movies as well.

i just hate it when you try to give your opinion and its longer than you expected to express and then when you hit POST COMMENT and it doesnt appear.....it really is frustrating. i will say this to try and summerize....

JLA can work as long as its done correctly. My opinion is that JLA needs to be done in a series of films. WORLDS FINEST to start. Peter Jackson would be a PRIME director/producer for this effort and since he is already working with WB on the HOBBIT, it should be pretty easy for them to make that offer to the guy that did the impossible with the LOTR.

Also, Nolans BATMAN would work just fine in a JLA film...even tho he is grounded in reality....if they tossed this version of BATMAN to a JLA setting it would be awesome. It would bring him out of everything he has known and make it very interesting. If MARVEL can throw RDJ Ironman into a film with THOR then im pretty sure that BALES BATMAN will fit just fine in t a movie with Superman. In fact BALE, CAVILL AND REYNOLDS SHOULD ALL BE INCLUDED INTO THE JLA FILM.

This would never work. they linked the marvel characters with the cosmic cube. what will link the Justice League? Kryptonite? Lantern's might? the Power of Morgan Freemen? doesn't mix.
SigmaCenturion
SigmaCenturion - 8/9/2011, 10:41 PM
no nolan batman that would suck why with a ton of superpowered heroes why would you need a non detective batman who relies on his butler and lucius fox to help him get jobs done. really he has no skills. I think a justice league movie would work just jump into instead of leading into it like marvel is.
Viltrumite
Viltrumite - 8/20/2011, 10:28 PM
I definitely think it can work, although I think it would be best to do away with Martian Manhunter. He's probably the character the general audience would have the hardest time accepting. If you stick with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, and Aquaman, that'd be perfect.
EarOne
EarOne - 9/26/2011, 4:26 PM
it's VERY possible. as long as they keep a common element in all characters in their own solos movies.

if they're going by Nolan's batman world, then the others SHOULD follow suit and "adjust" to fit the more fantastic stuff about their own worlds to the batman's more "realistic" movie world.

but, we can tell after Man of Steel comes out and whether that movie could fit in with Bale's batman flicks.

yea..i dont think they should even have the films leading up to it. just straight being out an awesome JL movie.

I agree. They should start with a JLA movie and work from there, like releasing a Superman or Batman spin-off from the JLA movie.
