ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE: Darkseid Actor Ray Porter Reacts To The First Teaser For The Movie

Jason Momoa recently shared the first teaser for Zack Snyder's Justice League, and that came with a tantalising glimpse of Darkseid. Now, actor Ray Porter has shared his thoughts on that big reveal...

In Zack Snyder's Justice League, actor Ray Porter voices the villainous Darkseid. When the filmmaker's original vision for the movie is released on HBO Max next year, that will mark the first time we get to hear his work after Joss Whedon completely scrapped the character's role in his cut.

Recently, Aquaman star Jason Momoa shared an amazing sneak peek at the "Snyder Cut," and with that came a long overdue glimpse of Darkseid in action. When The Arroyo Show caught up with Porter, he shared his reaction to the footage, and had nothing but praise for Snyder's work.

"It’s really good. It’s really cool," he exclaimed. "I mean Gal Gadot, she looks terrified, it’s so cool. It’s amazing to me that in 34 seconds Zack Snyder can pack more suspense and foreboding than a lot of people can in an entire film. Just looking at it externally and not like ‘oh look that’s me’, looking at it it’s really amazing. It’s only 34 seconds, but it’s huge. So, very exciting."

As for finally getting to see Darkseid on screen, Porter added: "It’s been a long time coming, it’s been a very much an up and down kind of journey. I don’t know, I mean I got really excited. There’s just the thrill of like, ‘Woah, look, that’s me!' I’ve been in the business for a long enough time that I probably should be less enthusiastic about stuff like that but I’m always a dork that way. It was very exciting and so well done. I may have watched it once or 50 times."

Snyder obviously gave Porter the opportunity to play one of the DC Universe's most iconic villains, so the chance to finally share his performance with fans is a big moment for him. With any luck, we'll get to see more of Darkseid over the coming months, but it would be a shame for too many of his scenes to be revealed in advance, especially when there's so much excitement surrounding his debut.

How psyched are you guys for Zack Snyder's Justice League?

I would love that, of course, and if you're a fan of Ironside's Darkseid like me, then i suggest you to check out the Harley Quinn animated series!

The one thing I don't understand after that teaser is people making a big deal about Gal Gadot's facial expressions.

I swear she's already made that face thoughout the entirety of Wonder Woman and the theatrical JL, lol.

Would love it if they achieved just some of the subtle menace of Tom King's version.

I don't get it. So this is the generic cookie cutter bad guy that the other generic cookie cutter bad guy works for and their motivation is to just destroy everything and then sit in the middle of the destruction and play cribbage?

Did I miss something?

@Goldboink - ...so endgame thanos?

Thanos was well developed over a number of films. He had complex motivations that were explained properly.
Origame

@Goldboink - ...until endgame where it was thrown out the window for the cookie cutter "kill everyone and start it all again" villain.

@Origame -
It's the whole "start it all again" that is the difference. Thanos ultiately wants birds and bees and frolicking life forms, just half as many of them. His motivations are ultimately altruistic. Sure, by the end he is pissed and realizes that people won't be grateful that he cleared out half of the life in the universe so that the other half could thrive and went there but he is a bad guy anyway.

Please fill me in on what Darkseid's motivation is again? And that other guy with the bug army. What was he after again?
Origame
Origame - 6/22/2020, 12:47 PM
@Goldboink - ok, you're getting me confused here. I have no problem with thanos before endgame. In fact i think hes a great villain. My problem is in endgame where he ditches the whole idea of preserving life in exchange for just starting it over again, making him no different than any other bad guy and making absolutely no sense in regards to what came before.

And why do you think im saying a not defined character (in the movies. We arent bringing up comics since you got a guy killing people for a booty call).
Goldboink
Goldboink - 6/22/2020, 1:18 PM
@Origame -
It honestly didn't seem out of place to me. I guess that in the end he just turned into a kill them all bad guy. Was it wrong for him to come to the realization that the half that survived would never get over losing the other half? It just seemed logical to me and it wasn't until the third act that he went full "kill them all". Remember that this was the Thanos who went forward in time with the knowledge that he had won and then got killed for his efforts. In the end he had an arc that led him to that state.

That's the difference between him and Darkseid or whoever that other bad guy with the mother boxes was.
Origame
Origame - 6/22/2020, 2:36 PM
@Goldboink - kinda wrong, considering gamora is an example of someone who survived his plan and devoted her life to killing him. Thanos in infinity war fully understood that what he planned was highly controversial and, because of that, he respected those that acted against him. Theres absolutely no reason for him to want all life destroyed. In fact it goes against the goal he maintained for decades of preserving life. You cant just say he had an arc when that "arc" is literally just going from one motive to another in the span of one scene.

@Goldboink - ...so endgame thanos?

Wouldn't that be "preserving life" if keeping half alive meant the destruction of his plans?

He never ditched the idea of preserving life. He literally stated that he had to restart all life because his first plan meant that people would seek him out and try to undo what he'd done and bring everything back again. Which would again END all life. Starting life over IS preserving life.

It's all explained in the film. He didn't suddenly go crazy and decide to end all life. 🤨
