ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE May Include The Filmmaker's Original Steppenwolf Design

The Steppenwolf glimpsed in a Batman v Superman deleted scene looked vastly different to the one we saw in Justice League, and Zack Snyder has teased that original version in the cut coming to HBO Max!

Shortly after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was released in theaters, Warner Bros. shared a deleted scene online showing Lex Luthor communicating with Steppenwolf in the downed Kryptonian ship. By the time our first look at Steppenwolf in Justice League arrived, however, he looked positively cartoonish and not nearly as threatening as the silhouette we saw the year before.

It seems that's something filmmaker Joss Whedon can be credited for, as an exchange on Vero has pointed to Zack Snyder bringing back his take on Steppenwolf for Zack Snyder's Justice League.

With reports indicating that Warner Bros. is spending between $20 million - $30 million on finishing the film, it undoubtedly makes sense for us to see Steppenwolf as originally intended in this hotly anticipated Director's Cut. How much incarnation that will differ from the theatrical version is something we may not discover until a first look at this version of Justice League is released.

It's intriguing to wonder what the villain could look like now, as it's impossible to imagine the one we got fitting into the aesthetic of a Zack Snyder movie. Instead, he's likely to be quite a bit more fearsome.

Ah, the 90s aesthetic philosophy of "If you can't make it interesting, make it spiky."

Yes, yes, spend some of that precious money on transforming the generic, ugly, grey CG monster into a slightly different looking generic, ugly, grey CG monster.

I'm still wondering why go with him of all people for the villain of the first ever JL movie. If WB had any sense, they would've gone with Starro as the villain.

Was just going to mention in the other Steppenwolf thread that I preferred this design. I like the shape of his head. He actually seems kind of threatening. Can't say the same for the other version.

@Nebula - Just re-watched the "Ultimate Edition" BvS and yeah he looked much creepier here than in the Power-Rangers-esq Justice League. The way the soldiers find Lex weirdly communing with this Lovecraftian evil from deep space and then it immediately disappears, serious horror vibes.

@FleischerSupes - any thoughts on how the UE held up. I watched MoS and jumped right to JL after seeing the first 10 mimutes of BvS this weekend. Remembered it is really is a drag the first hour and a half, was wondering if that's still the case
