One Year Later, ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE Star Jared Leto Reflects On Returning As The Joker (Exclusive)

On March 18, 2021, Zack Snyder's Justice League was finally released on HBO Max. We never thought the "Snyder Cut" would see the light of day, but after the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign finally broke Warner Bros. down, they allowed the filmmaker to share his vision for the movie with the world. 

It received a far warmer critical response than Joss Whedon's 2017 disaster, and Snyder even shot a few extra scenes for an epilogue that set the stage for his planned sequels. Jared Leto's Joker got to return, and the Suicide Squad star gained what many felt was redemption after most of his performance as the Clown Prince of Crime in that 2016 movie was left on the cutting room floor.

During our recent conversation with the Oscar-winner (who is doing the rounds to promote Morbius), we asked what that response meant to him and how it felt to reprise the villainous role.
 

"It was great. Working with Zack is a beautiful thing. I adore him," Leto enthuses in the video interview above. "I really loved the opportunity. It was really special and I enjoyed it a lot. It’s a unique thing to have been part of DC and to now have been part of Marvel. It’s pretty amazing."

It's hard to say whether we could see more of this Joker down the line. Joaquin Phoenix played the iconic Batman villain in Joker, of course, while Matt Reeves has chosen Eternals star Barry Keoghan to be The Batman franchise's Harlequin of Hate. Despite the Snyder Cut of Justice League supposedly being a hit for Warner Bros., it doesn't appear as if the studio is looking to continue that story.

Stranger things have happened, and, as far as we know, Leto will still be the DCEU's Joker even after The Flash rewrites reality. It would certainly be interesting to pit this Clown Prince of Crime against Michael Keaton's Dark Knight, though the two actors can be seen together before then in Morbius! 

Morbius will be released in cinemas on March 31.
