THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN Reboot In The Works At 20th Century Studios

There have been several attempts to reboot Alan Moore's acclaimed The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen since the disastrous 2003 movie, and 20th Century Studios is now set to take another crack at it.

Alan Moore will be delighted!

After several attempts to reboot seminal comic series The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen for the big and small screen, Disney-owned 20th Century Studios is taking another crack at re-adapting Moore's acclaimed Victorian superhero tale for the Hulu streaming service.

No director is attached, but Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road, Red Sparrow) has been tapped to pen the screenplay. Don Murphy, who also produced the much-maligned 2003 movie, is back as a producer alongside Susan Montford and Erwin Stoff of 3 Arts Entertainment.

The previous TLOEG film starring Sean Connery took some major liberties with the source material, and significantly lightened the dark and cynical tone. Although it was lambasted by critics and tends to be miscategorized as a flop, it actually took in a very respectable $180 million at the worldwide box office.

We assume this new take will be more faithful, but we still expect the material to be toned down to at least some extent. Moore's comics contained quite a few shocking moments, including Mr. Hyde raping The Invisible Man to death in the second volume (yes, you read that right).

@BoosterBronze - yeah could have used one more season at least, just change the ending of season 3, and have season 4 be the gang looking for Dracula and Vanessa

I'm surprised to see they're developing it as a feature. I think a mini-series makes more sense. On a more ambitious scale as a series, with each season adapting a single self contained story from the comics.

They better at least keep the tone of the comics. This is not a cheesy kid friendly franchise.

I mean, Mr Hyde literally killed the Invisible Man, chopped him up and cooked him, then fed him to the rest of the league and they had no idea they were eating him because his pieces were invisible.

They will try to make it a blockbuster, like the first time, which it isn't. This a vile comic, and it was not created to be suitable for families. But then again, I like the the current adaptation as a fun swashbuckling flick, tho it isn't accurate in the least.

Welp, guess the MCU had a good run. Pissing off the wizard certainly didn't work out for Fox or WB.

Can we reboot snacks as much as we reboot media? Bring back those Reese's Cups with the chocolate crisp at the bottom. Dunkaroos went away, didn't they? Let's brings those back.
