The League Of Extraordinary Gentleman Reboot Going Back To It's Roots And Will Be Female-Centric

The League Of Extraordinary Gentleman Reboot Going Back To It's Roots And Will Be Female-Centric

Collider is reporting that producer John Davis spoke about the franchise and states that the recent summer blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road will act as an inspiration on how he can fix it.

Davis said,

"Just by going back to the roots and making it authentic to what the fan base was really excited about," Davis said. "It’s female-centric, which I think is interesting. I love female characters, point-of-view characters in action movies. I thought [Fury Road] was great. I think you can always find a fresh way of doing something and going back to the basics. What is that people love? What is it that made them love the property in the first place?"

Going back to the origins of the comics. The team was actually led by Mina Murray (from Bram Stoker's Dracula) and it was her task to assemble the team, not Alan Quartermain (who was played by Sean Connery).

I'm fine with this as long as female centric means female centric and not a load of feminist bull. I don't see gender when it comes to lead roles(I do but you get what I mean) so all the female empowerment shit added to the story is unecessary and is a turn off. You can have a powerful female lead with out the feminist politics.

By the way, since Mad Max is mention in the article, just so you guys don't think I'm referring to it, I'm not. Just seen the film for the first time 2 days ago and I loved it.

@jerryblake. Please learn how to read a full(short) comment. Did I even complain that the film would be a feminist film, or did I say I wouldn't mind this as long as it doesn't turn into one? Also, yeah I don't read the comics, never said I did, but I damn well know the whole team won't turn into women, and I never said anything that would bring up that thought.

I don't even have a problem with the Ghostbusters reboot. I think it's a neat idea if handle right.

Who is wanting this? Anyways, quit wasting time with this crappy project and make a new Moby Dick movie. It's time we got one, given our current technology.

It's gonna be a female-centic movie because of Wilhelmina Murray character.
Fine for me.

Please, don't go with that anti-feminist hate here if you did not understand the news.
It's not like the whole team is gonna be made of women now.

it's not the Ghostbusters situation. One of the movie news editors in my country
compared it to Ghostbusters situation in the headline. This started some weird (but thankfully short) shitstorm because everybody was just reading the headline and went "females ? all team will be made of women ?"

@RextheKing

i wasn't talking about you ... relax ;)
i was talking about people who would just read the article and start to hate without even trying to understand it.

"Please, don't go with that anti-feminist hate here if you did not understand the news."

This sounds very aimed at me, given what I said, and unless you're talking about another article(or some comments got deleted) you could have only been referring to me.

@RextheKing

no it's my fault. shoulda end the editing first and then put this up as the comment.
All i was trying to say ... some people will read the news and try to say tha female centered character means it's pro-feminist movie. Bullshit. Just read the comics. Mina was the backbone of the stories. Also some people might understand "female centered" as if whole team was made of women and go with anti-feminist hate from there. That's not the case here. Nobody said the League is gonna be all female now.

f ucking hell! it doesn't have to be ONE or the OTHER, Not all male Ghostbusters or all female Ghostbusters. Look LOEG had one female member because it was set in Victorian times, based on characters written in Victorian times, when women were 2nd class citizens. SMH. How is this "... authentic to what the fan base was really excited about"? John Davis is an idiot.

He saw Mad Max: Fury Road and thought that that's how the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie should be like?
Because that's not exactly what "People love" about the comic. It's not exactly what "Made them love the property in the first place".
How the fvck is Mad Max: Fury Road anything at all like the LOEG books?

Even though I like Alan Moore as a writer, I have never got around to reading "League of Extraordinary Gentleman." However, I have always liked the idea of it. If they can actually do the concept justice this time, I'm on board for this film.
