LUTHER Actress Ruth Wilson Was Offered A Role In A Marvel Studios Movie But Decided To Turn It Down
You don't often hear about an actor turning down a part in a Marvel Studios film, but Ruth Wilson (Luther, The Lone Ranger) did once she realised the role wasn't for her. Find out more after the jump...
If you're a fan of British crime drama Luther, chances are you've already fan-cast Ruth Wilson as any number of comic book characters, and the actress has now revealed that she actually had the chance to play one.
During an interview with Time Out, Wilson explained why she ultimately decided to turn down the role:
"I did have an interview for a Marvel thing ages ago. They wouldn't say what the part was, so I made a questionnaire for the two directors. 'Is she a baddie?' They said she was a bit of both. 'Does she wear leather or latex?' They said no. I was like, 'EER-EEER!'
I said, 'How many days filming is it?' They said 14. I said, '14? That's not very long ... EER-EEER!' So I said no. If you want to be in a Marvel movie, you've got to be a baddie or a superhero. Just being the girl on the side is boring. I'd be up for being a baddie."
Two directors could suggest it was The Russo Brothers, which makes us think the role might have been Agent 13/Sharon Carter in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Though Sharon never flirted with villainy, the fact that she was introduced as Steve's neighbour before revealing herself as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent might explain why they were unwilling to disclose too much about the character.
That's just one possibility, so please feel free to speculate away in the comments.
It does sound like Wilson would be interested in boarding a superhero movie as long as she got to suit-up, so hopefully another opportunity comes her way.
