There is no doubt that over the past decade, Kevin Feige has been the single most influential producer in Hollywood, churning out hit after hit as the "showrunner" of the MCU. That statement is only elevated by the fact that no MCU film has ever been rotten on the tomatometer, in addition to regularly breaking box office records.
Last night, Kevin Feige, who started his career as an errand boy for Richard Donner, received the prestigious David O. Sleznick Award. Considered as one of the highest honors in Hollywood, the Sleznick Award is one of the biggest achievements a producer can earn. Presented to him at the Producer's Guild Awards by the one and only Robert Downey Jr., Feige emphasized the power of cinema and superheroes in his acceptance address. "People can lump [Marvel films] as 'superhero movies' or 'comic book movies' but to us they're movies." Previous honorees have included DC's Charles Roven and Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy.
At the PGAs last night also Kevin Feige held the sole credit for Best Picture nominee Black Panther. Ultimately, the film lost out to Green Book. Nonetheless, it is safe to say Marvel Studios will be very happy when Oscar nominations are announced Tuesday morning.
