After a decade of reshaping what it means to be a Hollywood blockbuster, producer and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige is finally getting his due, receiving the Selznick Award at last night's PGA Awards.

There is no doubt that over the past decade, Kevin Feige has been the single most influential producer in Hollywood, churning out hit after hit as the "showrunner" of the MCU. That statement is only elevated by the fact that no MCU film has ever been rotten on the tomatometer, in addition to regularly breaking box office records.

Last night, Kevin Feige, who started his career as an errand boy for Richard Donner, received the prestigious David O. Sleznick Award. Considered as one of the highest honors in Hollywood, the Sleznick Award is one of the biggest achievements a producer can earn. Presented to him at the Producer's Guild Awards by the one and only Robert Downey Jr., Feige emphasized the power of cinema and superheroes in his acceptance address. "People can lump [Marvel films] as 'superhero movies' or 'comic book movies' but to us they're movies." Previous honorees have included DC's Charles Roven and Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy.

At the PGAs last night also Kevin Feige held the sole credit for Best Picture nominee Black Panther. Ultimately, the film lost out to Green Book. Nonetheless, it is safe to say Marvel Studios will be very happy when Oscar nominations are announced Tuesday morning.

From Deadline’s live-blogging of it:

“Robert Downey Jr.’s ode to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is, no surprise, a charismatic barrage of loopy observations, ironic asides and wise-guy zingers as the expense of the genial but fairly shy Feige. “A modern-day Midas but he acts like a fanboy,” Downey said. “He never even bought a nice car…he’s a good human in a position of power something sorely lacking in our society…”

....the mastermind of the Marvel Universe acknowledged Robert Downey Jr. for his introduction and for his youthful good looks. Feige said he hasn’t fared as well during his 10-year run as Hollywood’s hottest producer. “I look like I chose the wrong grail…” When the wry aside fell flat, Feige explained it was a reference to “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” Adding: “Everyone at my table got that one…”

I’m comforted by the fact that he (and his table) are still fanboys at heart.

@Chewtoy - for farks sake... it genuinely kind of sickens me that he had to further explain that incredibly well dropped Last Crusade reference.

all those people there, they're supposed to be big shots in something called the, uhh... I think it's the MOVIE business, right?

Well deserved, Kevin's put his heart into this cinematic universe and it has brutally paid off. Congratulations to him and every single one working side by side with him behind the curtains, breathing life to this universe.

Keep on bring it on guys, keep on bring it on the goods.
