Marvel Studios' untitled Disney+ Halloween Special is scheduled to begin shooting later this year, and the project has now added its female lead.
Joining Gael Garcia Bernal, who is believed to be playing a character based on Marvel Comics' lycanthrope antihero Werewolf by Night, is The Nevers actress Laura Donnelly. Deadline cannot confirm which character she's been cast as, but speculate that it could well be Nina Price, aka Vampire by Night.
In the comics, Price is the niece of character Jack Russel, and is a actually vampire/werewolf hybrid. Russel debuted in the pages of Marvel Spotlight in the early '70s, and was the first to hold the mantle of Werewolf by night. More recently, a teen of Hopi and Mexican descent named Jake Gomez was introduced as a new take on the Werewolf.
It's not clear who Bernal's version will take influence from, but it could end up being an amalgamation of the two or a completely new character.
Donnelly will be best known for her role as Amalia True in HBO’s The Nevers, but has also appeared in Outlander and Britannia, as well as The Fall, Tolkien and The Program. She won an Olivier Award for her performance in The Ferryman back in 2018.
