MEN IN BLACK 4 Will Feature A Prominent Female Lead; Is Will Smith Returning?

It looks like the Men In Black franchise is set for some big changes. No, it's nothing as wacky as that 21 Jump Street crossover idea, mind you. According to MiB producers, the fourth movie in the popular series will star a 'Woman in Black'. Will she be joined by Will Smith?

It's been four years since the last Men In Black movie, and nineteen years since the last good one (*sorry*), so how do longtime franchise producers Laurie MacDonald & Walter Parkes intend to revive the lucrative sci-fi/comedy series? By introducing a female lead. Speaking to BBC Newsbeat, MacDonald revealed that Men In Black 4 will star "a prominent woman in black".

Plans for the fourth movie are underway, which will serve as a fresh start for the franchise. "
We sort of looked at the first three in retrospect as a bit of a trilogy," Parkes explained, "We tried to tell a story about those two characters and that relationship, It sounds silly because it’s a fun, science fiction comedy but when you work on these things you sort of try to find some thematic basis underneath it. Now we are looking at a reinvention, but it’s a wonderful world to get back into."

They're not wrong. One or two new leads would certainly help shake things up, and it might be nice to see (at least) one female protagonist take centre stage this time around. Whichever actress they cast in the role may inevitably be joined by a returning Will Smith - who was originally presumed to be sitting this one out. "Never count Will out" Parkes insisted.

How would you like to see a fourth Men In Black movie handled? Personally, I kinda want to see them go down that ridiculous Jump Street crossover route - but only if Phil Lord & Chris Miller are free to oversee things.

Men in Black 4: Women in Black. Sounds pretty redundant.

A female lead in a men in black movie is not "feminist shit" it's nothing out of the ordinary, it was hinted at at Men In Black 2 for gods sake but the media have thrown this "independent woman" "omg look how diverse we are by casting a woman" bullshit in your face so much that everything does feel like a feminist agenda and it gets really annoying.

Praising people for casting woman in strong roles when we've had Ellen Ripley, Sarah Conner, Marge from Fargo, The Bride in Kill Bill, Thelma and Louise and so on.

So are we going to just reboot everything that had prominently male characters with women characters just cause? Alright.

I mean, there hasn't been a good MIB film since the first so experiment away I suppose.

I think it would be awesome to see Captain Dickson crossover into the Men In Black movies

So much potential, especially scenes with Smith and Cube, haha

Men In Black I was great, MIB II not so much. Men In Black III was a lot better than it had the right to be and a fitting end to a trilogy. A new follow on movie is a questionable move.

They should leave it at a trilogy. I see this movie flopping hard even if Will is in it.

I'd like to see L come back because we never really got her as an agent, outside the animated Series that is.

I see a trend in Sony.

"We have Spider-Man. Now let's make an all female Spider-Man team."
"We have Ghostbusterers. Now let's make all female Ghostbusters team."
"We have the Ocean's series. Now let's make Ocean's Eleven but with all females."
"We have Men In Black. Now let's make a female character the main role."

I have no issue with female starring films but you're just taking franchises and adding women which is so [frick]ing lazy in my book and doesn't progress female led films at all.

I honestly didn't think that MiB3 was that bad. Still don't want another one though.

Every rebooted film franchise is tagged with "PROMINENT FEMALE LEAD" which is fine as long as it doesn't become a gimmick....and as long as THIS WOMAN IS NOT INVOLVED
