COMICS: "Past Meets Present" In First Look at AVENGERS #25

They have come from a different place and time – and today, Marvel is pleased to present your first look at AVENGERS #25, from blockbuster creators Jonathan Hickman and Salvador Larroca. United against threats no single super hero could withstand – the Avengers have faced dangers unlike any other. But what happens when the danger is themselves? From the splintered fringes of time comes….the Avengers?! And the heroes of the past must face the horrors their present has wrought.

“After wrapping up INFINITY, Jonathan and I were pretty tired. Too tired to come up with anything new,” says Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. “That whole All-New X-Men thing with the X-Men from the past has been working out pretty well for Brian Bendis, so we thought we’d jump on the bandwagon. Hence, the All-New Avengers! Sounds like the sort of thing that we’d do, doesn’t it?”
Past and present collide this January in AVENGERS #25. But when the dust settles, will there be a present worth fighting for? Not everyone makes it out alive!

I would have thought this quote came from a Marvel Comics parody site if you hadn't said otherwise.

@rebellion and NoAssemblyReqd:

future Avengers covers semi-spoil what this "All-New Avengers" thing is all about. Its nothing like the All-New XMen situation.
Don't expect to see these guys stick around.

Or you can just presume that its the same without reading. whatevs.

How is this anything like Days of Future Past, anyways?
its "Avengers from the past arrive in the present" not "Avengers from present visit a dystopian future and get killed".

The Avengers of the past are just about the Avengers of today.

Iron man: Check

Thor: Check

Hulk: Check

Hank and Janet: Uhhh [FRICK] it. Throw those two in there so we can call it "THE PAST".

And Pym isn't even bleeding or beat up, hes just laying there. That's telling me that he got all drunk on Zima's and Peppermint Schnapps and tried to ride a butterfly.

Earths from different realities are colliding with each other because of all the time traveling done on our Earth.... Now another group from the past is here? Not to mention our Hulk was just recently time traveling to fix things. Something big and bad is going on with Marvel.

Plus its looking like Ultimate universe is about to end with our Galactus being there. Ultimate X-Men ended them saying all the Ultimate X-Men will die next issue. Whats going on?

Great art by the way.

Art is cool, but the concept behind this story is just 'meh', it worked with All New X-Men but doesn't mean it'd work with the Avengers, I'll give it a read if it's good but seriously, right now Marvel comics seem a bit too convoluted and removed from my traditional perceptions of their heroes to properly enjoy.

It's got to be misdirection, especially with the way brevoort is blatantly admitting to this callow theft. I trust Hickman to make the title worthwhile and expect this will work out and surprise everyone.

The reason All New X-Men works so well is because its a group of idealistic teenagers meeting their experienced selves. The Avengers were never idealistic teenagers. There is no proper juxtaposition here. Why do this?

Anyone have any theories that aren't "Marvel is creatively bankrupt?"

Could they be Space Phantoms(as seen in Avengers #2 1963)?

@ALmight: you should do you research before saying something is a total failure. In classic Avengers, the only time Hank wore the ant man costume was the first issue. For more direct proof, see Avengers #2. He's riding ants in his giant man outfit on the second page.

@ALmighty: I might not have even noticed it myself if I hadn't recently been re-reading early avengers books. It's a frequent happenstance that had no real explanation as near as I can tell.

What is this, All New Avengers!? Is Marvel so lost for ideas that they feel the need to bring back younger versions of their characters for no reason? Seriously WHY IS THIS HAPPENING!?

There is method to the madness.

They may be working towards eliminating time travel all together.

So many people have traveled through time so much in the marvel U. Time itself is beginning to "die".
