Professor Xavier: "Mankind is evolving"
Magneto:"Yes, into us....we are the future not them"

These lines ring more true today than any, this is why we as CBM fans, lovers, and brothers need to stand together now. According to boxofficemojo.com Titanic is still one of the top grossing movies of all time THIS IS AN ATROCITY!

Many, if not all of us, can remember with this piece of garbage opened in theaters. I, like many was a teenager and very excited at the opportunity to see boobs, however this was not enough to get me to see this movie.

Women and girls dragged the men they loved to this movie because of some crappy love story. The time has come to over through this travesty once and for all.

My fellow nerds UNITE!

We all knew that the time would come when Avengers would fall out of the top spot at the movie theaters, but it is too soon. I call all true believers to the theater to help a comic book movie to rise above this love story and claim its place, let us make Avengers the iceberg!

I will not say that we need to make Avengers the top movie of all time, although it would be great, James Cameron did redeem himself with Avatar, and I believe that there are many who would be okay with Avatar remaining at the top of the list. That being said we would be doing a great disservice to all comic icons past present and future if we did not have an actual comic book movie pass this "love story" on the list.

For all who were made to see this film now is the time to repay the debt, there is nothing over the past 15 years that can make up for what men had to endure when made to watch this film, the time has come and the debt can now be repaid in full.

I urge all to join me in this cause and help get a true classic above this film, where it belongs.

As stated in the beginning, we are evolving from crappy, sappy love stories to the viewing of the greatest stories ever told.

Marvel or DC place your differences aside and unite to over through this piece of garbage.

Join this noble crusade.

@adapunisher, already seen it twice and plan a third viewing before it leaves theaters.

Thats what I love about Marvel films, the watchability. To this day I rock the first Iron Man every once in a while, damn good flick!

It's the box office, that stuff happens....

But WHO CARES? It's the 3rd highest grossing film of ALL TIME!
That should be enough:P

Kate Winslets titties made Titanic watchable. She's a hot red head. The Avengers has the #3 spot. As much as I would love to see it rock the #1 or even #2 spots, we can't get greedy. Having said that... I've seen it twice and will at least a third before buying the DVD/BluRay combo pack.

This movie is a 3rd highest crossing movie of all time I am pretty sure that makes it a classic. Nice dedication though. Avengers is definetly the best comic book movie of all time.

Marvelites started the hate war, back in 09, when several new trolls came to CBM. Spewing that Marvels Quantity should outweigh quality. Thor, Captain A, Avengers, Ironman, Hulk, are the only good films they made since 2008. And only another 3 good films from 2000-2007. They just don't like to acknowledge TDK for its accomplishments for CBMs, and instead say it's overrated, or wasn't that good.

this film is NOT a classic. A classic can be watched over and over and withstand the test of time. A classic has a story that will draw it's watchers in and surprise them as it goes along. A classic doesn't have a predictable story and basic boring dialouge (ironman excluded). This film is right where it should be, at number 3. It's good but this world has officially gone to shit if it beat's greats like Titanic and Avatar.

MercMatt - 6/4/2012, 1:46 AM
^^^^^The AVengers may not be a "classic", but neither are Titanic and Avatar. Titanic has good spots, as does Avatar, which I own and watch once a month. But saying that the world has "gone to shit" if Avengers beats out Titanic and Avatar??? Come on, man! Again, this is your opinion... But the way you present it comes off wrong. What's so shitty about a world where men and women, children of all ages, and uc CBM lot can come together on a single movie such as Avengers, enjoy it, and praise it for redefining an already redefined genre and cinema experience??? Yes! TDK redefined the CBM genre, and brought much needed recognition to one of the greatest characters of all time... But before that came Spider-Man 2. Before that? X-Men. And before that was Blade. TDK showed that other world characters can exist in the real world. But still... X-Men had already done it. TDK deserves all of it's praise. Saw the movie seven times in theaters. But it's old news. Avengers deserves every bit of praise and success that it's gotten. But it to will become old news. TASM and TDKR are coming out soon, and they'll each be praised and hated by us and the general audience alike. But as your opinion about the Avengers, while possibly not biased, is so low, I can't help but wander if you'll come on this site praising TDKR after it's release, caiming that it deserves the #1-#3 spot. If TDKR actually fails to live up to TDK, will you actually be willing to see it that way, or will you blindly say that it is the greatest CBM of all time? The Avengers owned! Plain and simple. But it may be overthrown over the next cpl months. Til then... It's, imo, the second greatest CBM of all time.

. . . Or, maybe make The Dark Knight Rises take #1 spot due to a "Spider-Man 3 Theory" I had where the third movie in the series will make more money than the last sequel.

But then again, I feel that the Avengers has a good spot at #3; after all, I find Titanic to be a classic even if it is romance.

Wow... this article... it's like a monument to Nerd Rage.

Avatar and Titanic are shit (although I think Titanic is marginally better than Avatar). I'm usually the first to bash both of those films and their placement in the highest grossing film list. I would love to see Avengers knock them off the top spot. But there's no point crying about it if that doesn't happen! Avengers has done an amazing thing - it's the first true CBM to reach the #3 spot on the list (TDK is an amazing film, but not a true CBM IMO), that's a spectacular achievement right there.

And even if Avengers stays at number 3... compare the box office figures for TDK vs Batman Begins, Spider Man 3 vs Spider Man 2 vs Spider Man, Iron Man 2 vs Iron Man... then imagine the box office numbers for Avengers 2 when it's released.

How can you call titanic garbage? You sir have problems
MrsTonyStark0507
MrsTonyStark0507 - 6/4/2012, 7:34 AM
Why do women have to take the blame for Titanic? My husband had to drag me to the theater to see the 3D version and before that, I had only partially watched it on TV maybe 2 years ago. I was 14 when it came out and I REFUSED to watch it. I was highly offended that instead of telling a true story about some of the actual passengers on board, they decided to fabricate an absurd and melodramatic "love story." The only parts of the movie I have any respect for and that actually brought me to tears were the scenes when the ship was sinking and they showed the families who held each other in their final moments. They could have had a sincerely good film, but that is not the case.

I do agree with this article though. If not the Avengers, let it be a CBM!! We got lots of goodies this summer!! SINK THE TITANIC!!!!

Yossarian - Glad I am not the only one that recognized NextHero08's stink on this thread.

Nexthero08 - Pretty amazing how just a couple days ago you said, "The Avengers is now #3 on the list of highest grossing films of all time, however I don't believe the movie is good enough to be in those ranks" but now you say "This film is right where it should be, at number 3." I believe that is what is called a contradiction. "A classic has a story that will draw it's watchers in and surprise them as it goes along. A classic doesn't have a predictable story and basic boring dialouge." In the same paragraph, you called Titanic great. Ummm, last time I checked, Titanic is NOT original (at least 14 other movies based on Titanic have been made over the years) NOR is it unpredictable. Pretty sure we all knew how it was gonna meet its fate. Or was that a surprise to you? Maybe if they had screamed "AVENGERS ASSEMBLE" during their final fatal moments, they would have come to the rescue and gave you that unpredictable factor you were looking for. I don't know how to get it through your head, but BOX OFFICE $$$ DO NOT REFLECT THE QUALITY OF A FILM!! IT'S NOT RELATED IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM!!! WHAT DEFINES A FILM AS A CLASSIC IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER. THAT IS IT!!!

Let's get this settled. James Cameron can get a film made but is an awful writer. Exhibit A: Aliens. This film while having some good elements is terrible for several reasons the least of which was JCam cant even write an original ending.Titianic: JCam admitted on national television that he made several errors in the film but was too lazy to fix them, if you are trying to make a fictional but accurate to the sinking film, get the real parts correct. Especially when you are a self proclaimed expert in the disaster. Avatar: I have no idea how this film is number 1 gross. Visually stunning but the story just sucks, it's a social commentary on capitalism and government where the creatures use their genitals to accomplish everything. This story about how government and classes is told by a man who is worth almost a billion dollars, and by all counts is the biggest controlling douche in hollywood....even if you didn't know that it's still not a classic or great film.

The great parts of Avatar are the things Cameron had nothing to do with, the amazing digital creations by many many artists. Some may say, he invented new technology for the film, but that doesn't mean he actually executed the work itself.

Minotauro, that is not even remotely accurate. MarvelvsDC has been around since the comic shop was conceived first off and existed on this site the moment it got it's first 10 users. This Nolanite/Whedonite war has only been around for the past year and the Nolanites are by far the worst about keeping it going. Truth is they're both annoying and you just filed yourself with one of them by defending the asinine behavior. Yes, us rational fans will agree, TDK was a good movie, loved it, and can't wait for TDKR... but we also loved Avengers. You see that's how the REAL fans do it. You pussies in either camp are antifans who really don't know dick about comics or anything. You loved Marvel/DC from cartoons you watched as a child and that infantile division has been maintained throughout your life. Bottom line, TDK is a great CBM that shows the best of superheroes when taken seriously, while Avengers is the pinnacle of what the superhero translated from page to screen. But I wouldn't expect you or your fellow to understand this... you nolanites have more in common with the whedonites than you think.

TheMyth - ***APPLAUSE!!!!*** I couldn't have said it better!!!! (I just got called a Marvel fan (not that it's an insult or anything) for saying that Nolan was dull on another thread. Apparently you can't possibly be a fan of Batman if you don't consider Nolan to be a god. Who'd have thunk it?)

I've only seen Avengers once in theatres and I'm not planning on going again. It's a great movie (my favorite Marvel movie) and ill buy the dvd but if I go to the theatre id want to watch something I haven't seen yet. Also I like Titanic and Avatar, both classics to me.

I love mock nerdrage articles. The problem is people take it so literally. I got slammed for a mock nerdrage article a while back.

I love it, though, and it is time to sink the Titanic, sir!

Avengers might need to worry a little about Batman taking back his #3 slot after 'Rises'....hmmm

Just to clear this up, Avatar was good, Titanic sucked monkey balls! I just think that a good movie should be above crap like Titanic, it doesn't have to be the biggest ever, just bigger than craptanic.

With this movie being the 'first', and making the bucks it has made, there is a huge chance Avengers 2 will topple Titanic or Avatar, not this one though (could be wrong, it has beaten every prediction so far).
