LMAO that's hilarious. But why's there no "HE'S BLACK, KILL HIM" option on the poll?
MDHENDRICKS
MDHENDRICKS - 11/20/2011, 12:25 AM
Well I guess that makes me a racist wanting to respect the source material. I'm glad the poll says Peter Parker and not Spider-Man, If you want a black Spidey go right ahead just don't name him Peter Parker. Peter Parker is and will always be Caucasian in the 616.

Changing the race of a character never works no matter which way it goes. I hate the white washing Hollywood does to the adaptions of Manga and Anime, and a white Shaft would be disgrace. Just like a Zorro who isn't Hispanic would be travesty,or a Kato who isn't Asian,or a Tanto who isn't Native American, I'm looking at you Depp, and so on and so forth.

He should have a cameo as Miles Morales somewhere in Mark Webb's Spidey universe. Maybe when he's not transformed yet, just a suprise for the fans!

Zorro was played by a white actor Anthony Hopkins before Antonio Banderas took on the role.

@Jazzman, the reason he showed Michael C as Shaft is because it was part of Donalds stand up. Someone posted on his website about Making Michael Shaft and he went on a 5 minute rant about how sweet that would actually be to see that, and that he woud loose all his money going to see the shaft movie over and over again.

didn't even chuckle but that was pretty funny. and yeah if anything Danny Glover can be a movie extra as a thug or some random friend of Peter's but never play the part of peter. when this first was news i think i said something along the lines of why don't we just have a mexican wolverine and have him trim hedges haha and that's ok for me to say cuz i'm mexican so kiss my nuts u snitchin ass reporters

Having a black Peter Parker wouldn't change Peter Parker as a character, which is the source material we should be protecting the most. Peter is an alienated nerdy teen who lives with his struggling middle class aunt and uncle in New York. Its all about who Peter is as a young man not the color of his skin that makes him so enjoyable for the readers. Saying a black man shouldn't portray this role is racist because its just basically an aesthetic choice.

Funny Spider-Man / Peter Parker over Emo Caucasian Spidey. That's the beauty of the costume, anybody could be under it, so why not ?

imnotahero - 11/20/2011, 11:31 AM
Black Peter Parker is an awful idea. Think about it: you change him, but where do you stop? Are Aunt May and Uncle Ben black too? What about Gwen/ Mary Jane? (A black guy with a white girl? Hollywood can't handle this) Also, you are fundamentally changing the characters entire upbringing and life experience. I have no problem with a black Spider-man who has a different alter-ego, but a black Peter Parker changes the whole story.

Dang, I fail. I thought when they were talking about him playing Spider-Man, it was for him to play Miles Morales lol.

@greendalehumanbeing you couldnt have said it any better
everything you said was factual
peter parker is not based on a race but a character
his personality is what makes us love him
everything about peter, his awkward moments, his heroic exploits, how vurnable he gets at times, peter is just a nerdy kid from queens who wears a costume
the beauty in the costume is that anyone can be the hero under the mask the race and skincolor do not make the hero
and btw evil troy and evil abed are awesome
childish gambino is dopeness as well(had to put this in here)
donald would have made a great siderman because of donalds personality and how similar he is in reality to peter

@imnotahero

sorry but i found your comment abit silly if they did do a black Peter Parker why the hell his origin has to be changed Parker story is universal. jeez Peter was raised by his aunt and uncle and he lose his mum and dad thats no solely a white thing but a universal story for did race.
Treebeard
Treebeard - 11/20/2011, 2:12 PM
this is NOT a problem of racism.
peter parker is WHITE. why cast a black actor when you can NOT confuse your audience and cast a white one? you know you'd all be bitching if Billy Zane all of a sudden was cast in a Blade reboot. i'm so sick of people trying to make shit into bigger shit. shut the [frick] up

I think many Caucasian comic readers feel threatened by the idea that a superhero who embodies all the talents and athleticism that there race is mad fun of for not having is changed into an ethnic parity of a race of people who do embodies said athletic ability’s.

In short here are how some to most Caucasian CBM fans will comment:

1.Turn a White character Black = OH Hell NO!

2.Turn a Black character White = I can see it working if it’s written the right way…

3.Turn an Asian character White = Akira is going to be AWESOME!!!

However, I do agree, changing something like Blade or Shaft, which being black is a fundamental part of their character, does nothing to Peter Parker, whose origin story could be a part of anyone's race, the point is, youre supposed to connect to parker on the level of being a social outcast, not having things go your way, losing someone close to you, having some ineffable responsibility, theirs so much to connect to, but people still connect with race? Hop out into the 21st century friends.

Fishandchips - 11/21/2011, 8:52 AM
Don't change characters ethnicity, whether it's black to white, white to Asian, or Asian to Hispanic, there is no need, no one minds having a black spiderman, that's fine, but it ain't Peter Parker, I agree that that sort of character shouldn't be about race, but there is a black spiderman, if they did a spiderman reboot with a white character called miles morales as spiderman, you would all be going nuts and calling them racist. Yet when it's a black guy playing one who is white, people who're against it are racist. It's wrong really. And has anyone listened to this guys music, he has some really good songs,

Spidex3000 - 11/21/2011, 11:24 AM
@Fishandchips

The gimmick with Miles Morales is that he is black and latino, that's a specific part of his character, and something that, within the writing, if you read it, deals with race specific problems, ol PP on the other deals with problems that everyone faces. I dont think it's a necessary change, just not one that should be such a big deal. A nerd by any other name...
