Every day, a new article is up with the likes of Jeremy Renner or Tom Hiddleston speaking of "how great it is a feeling to see all these heroes together, in one room." Scroll down to the comments section, and what do we see? Comments like: "Woo! Sounds great! Bring on the new trailer!", or others that are more cynical, such as "Wow, they're not releasing any info about the movie. Come on Marvel, give us a new trailer!". But do we need one?
The reasoning to most of us wanting a new trailer to be released is, to put it frankly, we want another big secret spoiled for us. Really? If you look in the past, by checking the right sources you could have predicted what the ending was for both Marvel Studios movies last year. For the First Avenger, we knew it would end with the bomber scene, Steve waking up in modern times, and then an Avengers teaser at the end. For Thor, we knew that Loki would summon the Destroyer and that Thor would defeat it and stop Loki.
But, in the pursuit of fairness, a good bit of both of these movies were clouded to us. For example: Bucky's early death, and the destruction of the Bifrost. Also, Green Lantern and X-Men: First Class leaks were pretty much nonexistent. We did know we would see the beginning of Sinestro's fall and that Xavier would become paralyzed, though. But, were these so hard to predict? In fact, as a comic reader, we should have known the endings to every single one of them, no leaks, no secret tapes, but through watching the trailers.
The aforementioned statement brings me to my next point. Would a new trailer not just spoil so much of the movie's secrets for us? So many of us long to see Loki's army, but I would rather not know until I walk into the theater on May 4th. Why? Because surprises are such a good thing for such a predictable genre like the Comic Book Movie. It's not like we do not know enough about this film, is it? *Cough cough* Thanos, Loki's army, Cosmic Cube, *Cough cough*. But do none of us care about spoilers?
There we go. We don't care about the spoilers. I would like surprises, but many of us don't. People claim to enjoy spoilers so they can enjoy the storytelling more, and focus less on the plot or worrying about who dies or who survives. As comic fans, we know how it will end. Like this: The Avengers stop Loki's army, take in or kill Loki, and become national heroes. I am 99.99% sure this is how the film will conclude, with some room for unforeseen variables like an unexpected character death. We as comic fans don't care if this is what happens, though, is my point; we want to see how it is delivered. We want to see how well they adapt the stories we undoubtedly grew up with.
So, I have come up with a compromise, of sorts. Instead of us watching the trailers and leaking the movie one-by-one, see the film multiple times. The first viewing to see how the story unfolds, and then the second, third, or so on, to go back and see all the clues that were left and how they came together, and realize how a brilliant of a film it will be. What do you say? Spoilers or no spoilers? Sound off in the usual place.
