Legendary and Universal has mysterious "event" film planned for 2016.

Could it be the long awaited Mass Effect movie or Namor, which Universal still has the rights too?

Legendary Pictures has confirmed a date for a unknown "event" film. It seems that it probably will be "Mass Effect" which they announced a while back. I really liked playing the "Mass Effect" games even though my mum always got angry when I played them because they can be naughty at times. But it also could be Namor which Universal still has the rights too and Legendary is now best friends with them. I would like that too but I like Aquaman a little more, mostly because Super Friends is my favorite cartoon of all time. I remember when I was a young lad watching the telly with my best mate Little Frank watching Super Friends. But The Legion Of Doom base always scared me because of the yucky swamp. Anyways what do you think it will be or want it to be?.....I hope Mass Effect.

The release date is set for November 4th, 2016. 3 months and 4 days away from my birthday! Yay!

I doubt it's Namor.

After Sony's decreasing success with Spider-Man, I doubt Universal will take a risk with a Namor standalone film that has no connection to anything. People care about MCU, DCCU, The Fox-Men Universe, and that's it. Sony is having to stretch their Spideyverse to it's breaking point to tried to reach the epic level of Avengers, X-Men: DOFP, and whatever the sequel to MoS will be called. I doubt Universal will risk creating a universe where Namor is the only character. Their best bet is to try to work out a lucrative deal with Marvel to give them the rights back.

It will be Mass Effect.

Mass Effect most likely, since Hollywood is out of ideas. Video Game Movies are still pretty *puts on sunglasses* Uncharted.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@HailHydra

People care about the Fox-Men Universe? Is that why none of their movies have ever grossed more than a Spider-Man movie? I doubt DOFP will gross more than TASM2.

It has to be Mass Effect, Legendary is also doing Warcraft. With this, Universal and Legendary could become the MARVEL Studios of Video Game Adaptations (without the whole "connected universe" characteristic).

Aren't these the guys teaming up to build a shared monster universe? The Mummy, Van Helsing, Frankenstein, etc.
Could be related to that. I guess I don't really care.

@nibs Yeah what's the deal with that "universe", there haven't been any news about that.

The only way I could see a movie with Namor working if Universal also puts Hulk in the movie. I may be wrong but I thought Universal gave Marvel and Disney the production rights back. But not the distribution rights. So if that is the case I could see Universal doing that again. This would make the film a joint picture film. Both paying to help make the movie.

But that's not going to happen so it will be Mass Effect. I hope Neill Blomkamp gets to make the movie. I also wonder if it could be Starcraft. The reason why Starcraft is very big in Korea and China. Many movie studios look at the international market as a way to get their money back. So seeing as those markets love that game it only makes sense they might enjoy the movie too. Plus if they are already turning one Blizzard game into a movie why not another.

Well, the comments section of the recent Batmobile article seems pretty f*cking broken. Nothing new beyond a certain post on page two shows up. I was wondering if it was just me.

Marvel will over-pay for Spiderman soon enough...

They know that once they get Spiderman back, they will make all the money back off the first movie. Sony will be getting out of the movie business very shortly.

Jeez, it's one thing when a someone comments using incorrect English, but if you are going to write an article, learn the difference between "too" and "to". That nitpick out of the way, while I am dying to see a Namor movie, I would not like the idea of him not being in a shared universe. If Marvel can't get him back, I'd love the idea of Fox getting him so that he can be in a Fantastic Four film. :)

I believe Namor will return soon to Marvel. Just let the rights expire.
Missy
Missy - 5/15/2014, 11:18 AM
Though, I also believe that, if Marvel has recovered Namor and didn't care to announce it, we're all just assuming that Universal has it.
