Hasbro's long in-development toy adaptation has moved to another release date. Micronauts, which has been delayed several times, still lacks a creative team or director to spearhead the film.

Paramount has moved Micronauts from October 16, 2020 to June 4, 2021.

The studio and Hasbro have had previous successess during the month of June, with all their Transformers film debuting during the month. Hasbro and Allspark Pictures are hoping to establish a cinematic universe with the film, so a stragtegic and successful theatrical run is crucial for their future.

Regarding the future, Hasbro has set up a massive writers room for the universe, with Captain Marvel's Nicole Perlman and Black Panther's Joe Robert Cole as some of the few.

What are the Micronauts?

@Forthas - basically superhero gi Joe action figures. It's way before my time so that's basically all I looked up.

@MrCamw1 - Naw, they were more like Star Wars action figures, that size anyway, but made out of cheap metal. I remember having a few as a kid until they got broken. Had some comics where they crossed over into the Marvel universe with the X-Men. At least that's what I think I remember. Late 70s I think? I think the action figures were meant to be life-sized or some such - because they were MICROnauts, see? I'm not kidding or making this up either.

Hasbro should give/sell the rights of Micronauts and ROM:Spaceknight back to Marvel. Especially the latter - he had a great run and would fit right back in the Marvel Universe and in the MCU.

@SnapperCarr -

The Spaceknights as a race of aliens would fit perfectly in the MCU.

With or without Rom.

Preferably with Rom, though.

@SnapperCarr - Rom was great...still have all the books but Marvel would have to manage it. Too many supporting characters in Rom's books that were created by Marvel and not based on the toy..to include the Dire Wraiths.

2nd most favorite toy line from my childhood (Start Wars was #1). They better not screw this up.

@GreedoSarducci - Right? Baron Karza was as good a villain as Vader! Look at what they could do with some of the aspects like the body banks! People selling parts of themselves.

This is great news! Loved the original two book series as well as the toys (especially the remote control battle cruiser) but...there are some issues with this property (as well as Rom).

Some of the characters were based on toys but some were created by Marvel so unless Marvel gets the property (unlikely) or if Hasbro leases it to Marvel (probably the best case scenario) we won't ever get the full package. I believe Marvel owns Bug but Acroyear was Hasbro hence we'll never get that funny interaction. Hell, I think Arcturus Rann was Hasbro but Marionette was Marvel. How can you have Micronauts and not include that dynamic?

For Rom, we might get the robot version but not the character or the other space knights designed by Marvel.
GreedoSarducci
GreedoSarducci - 6/10/2019, 8:14 AM
@lawndart - Bug, Marionette and Arcturus Rann are Marvel property. Rann was based on the Space Glider figure but his name and history is all Marvel.
lawndart
lawndart - 6/10/2019, 11:01 AM
@GreedoSarducci - I knew Bug was for sure but didn't know how much of Rann's story was Marvel property. I think they'll probably come up with some generic story considering they won't be able to use a lot of aspects of the comic which is very unfortunate. The Acroyear character had an almost mythological backstory such as the conflict with his albino brother.

@lawndart - I thought I remembered James Gunn saying he wanted to but couldn't use Bug when he made the first GOTG, but I might have it all wrong, because I'm not sure how much sense that even makes.

Lol @ my own faulty memory
